Huge disappointment! My friends and I were really looking forward to trying the shabu shabu at Miake, but unfortunately, we were turned away because we hadn't confirmed our order via email.
I understand restaurants might need a heads-up for larger groups or special menu items. But we were only 3 of us and shabu shabu is on the regular menu. I shouldn't have to decide and confirm my friends' meal choices weeks ahead or even on the same day. It's unreasonable to expect guests to anticipate their entire dinner order in advance.
Miake's policy takes away the flexibility and spontaneity that comes with dining out with friends. We ended up having to order one of the standard rice bowl meals which was not very satisfying and very frustrating after getting our hopes up for shabu shabu.
To top it off, my heavily pregnant friend ordered a well-done egg and it arrived runny, which is dangerous! Their new dessert sake is a bad alternative, too.
Hopefully, Miake will reconsider their policy and allow diners to order from the full menu, regardless of how far in...
Read moreI'm so happy there's a place like this in Basel. I've never been to Japan, but from now on I'll just imagine that this is what dining in a japanese izakaya could be like. Our table shared many of the dishes on their menu (I feel like that you really get the most from your experience!) and they all ranged from good to incredible. Everything was beautifully cooked, seasoned, and tastefully presented. I especially liked the agedashi tofu, the chicken and negima yakitori skewers, and the braised pork belly. I was a bit disappointed by the karaage, the crust could have been more consistent and crispier and the chicken pieces more tender. In general, I had a wonderful time in a restaurant I will come back to over and over again! To the owners: thanks for your courage in bringing an authentic japanese experience to swiss customers without including fan favorites like sushi. I'm sure that there are plenty of people that want to have experiences like this and that are ready to be challenged in their conception of what...
Read moreMany things went wrong while my family tried to eat here. We tried to eat here 3 times. The first, we came when it was closing and not taking any more customers. It closed at 10 pm and we arrived at 928 Tye waitress waited 2 minutes until it turned 930 to take us and tell us tgsr they dont take customers after 930. The second time we went earlier, we were told that we needed reservations in order to eat in ( but the place was empty). The last time we tried to eat here, we had reservations and came in early. The service was mediocre, and when we tried to order our food, we were told that the sushi chef took the day off, and most of the menu was not available as a result half the menu was off limits amd unavailable. The portions were tiny and expensive. Overall, after living in switzerland for over a year, I would recommend getting your sushi in France or Germany for better quality sushi and...
