Well, I honestly don't even know where to start... First of all did the menu change within minutes. As we arrived we were told that pasta is available. However, that changed out of the blue and we had to choose salad instead. The salad, though, is an oil lake with tomatoes as ships rather than an actual salad. Therefore, it was anything but a pleasure to eat this dish on our last evening here in Geneva. Secondly, the salads are quite small which implies thats we are going to have a second and proper dinner in a couple of minutes. The Fondue, though, was quite delicious yet extremely expensive. Additionally, it is a bother for everyone who isn't comfortable with the strong smell of cheese. However, you can get as much bred for free as you wish. The drinks are expensive as well as pretty much everything. Everyone who is used to great service is going to be disappointed as well. Whilst only a few staff members speak English at all, there are others who smoke during their shift and don't prioritise the guest in any way. Additionally, the quality of the food is extremely poor except for the cheese Fondue. Generally, it is no pleasure to eat here due to the food, the noise and the service. The only thing that made this dinner decent were the wonderful, lovely people who joined me and somehow managed to lift up each others moods like nobody else. Thanks for reading and considering a different...
Read moreThis place was exactly what I was looking for, a cozy down to earth place where locals actually visit, eat fondue while spending some time around the outdoor fires. The location is outstanding, in a small island in the middle of the lake, offering some magical views. I arrived with my family around 7 pm, the indoor area despite being huge, was already full, so we were seated outside. It was a little cold and windy but the wooden fire helped us stay comfortable for the most part. The food offered there is pretty simple, 1 fondue portion for 1 person costs 25€, it is served with bread and potatoes that can be refilled in case needed. I also ordered their horse jerky, which comes with pickled cucumber and onions, it was delicious. I also ordered smoked salmon, which comes with a small salad as a starter. They have some other appetizers such as ham and melon, tomatoes with mozzarella and soup, the starters prices range from 10 to 15€. They also have a variety of drinks to choose from. The employee who took my order wasn't very friendly at first, but then I joked around a bit to break the ice and everything went fine from there. I totally recommend this place for a quick bite if you are staying in Geneva, and make sure to book before hand if you want to secure a place indoors in case you visit in winter
Update: Now they accept cards as well as...
Read moreStumbled upon a gem in Geneva—Buvette des Baines, tucked away on Port Wilson, and oh, what a find! This spot is the midday retreat of dreams, especially if you're all about that fondue life under the sun. But let’s talk about more than just the food for a sec.
The service here? Top-notch. As English-speaking tourists, we were a bit worried about navigating the menu and the local dining etiquette, but the staff were nothing short of amazing. They walked us through the whole fondue process, even down to the little sign language for ‘more bread, please’—which, trust me, you’ll be using a lot because that fondue is divine.
What really sets Buvette des Baines apart is the vibe. You've got your choice of soaking up the sun outdoors or keeping it cozy inside. And the menu’s got variety to please everyone in your crew. We dove headfirst into the fondue (when in Switzerland, right?), but I eyed a lot of other tempting dishes on the menu for next time.
In a city that’s no stranger to culinary delights, Buvette des Baines stands out for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly faces, and of course, the kind of fondue you’ll be telling your friends about. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and drop by. It’s the kind of place that makes a day out in Geneva...
