The location of this property is great. TJ, the host at the Living Room Bar & Kitchen inside the Ritz is absolutely wonderful - she was so sweet, personable and a treat to talk to! As well, Heni, the concierge whom I emailed back and forth with prior to my visit, was such a great help. The food and drink at both The Living Room Bar & Kitchen and Fiskebar is delicious. I highly recommend anything and everything off the menu - kudos to the Chef!
Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the room(at least the one I was situated in). If you are allocated to Room 112 - ask for a room switch immediately! The wifi was not set up, I had to call them to look into it(which they did fix right away). The TV was also not set up and welcomed you as a 'guest', rather then the personalized message of your name and additional options on the menu screen as the Ritz typically has- this was fixed on the last day of my visit. As for the room itself, beware, you hear every little bit of movement from the room above you and can hear the water running and toilet flushing as well. There is some sort of restaurant(not sure what it is) behind you - which makes plenty of noise/hammering as well. And the deliveries that come in in the morning in the 'back/Garden View' of the Ritz are directly below you, so the wake up at 6am is very unpleasant. After mentioning this (along with a 4:30am call to front desk due to the upstairs neighbors the night before), all they could muster up was a 'sorry', along with a gift bag of chocolate upon check-out(did they think that the sugar would perk me up from the horrible sleep I had the night before, and before that?). Also, I am fully packed with a flight to catch, where do you think I would put the gift bag? I politely declined and trekked to the airport, exhausted.
One other thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was when I walked in for lunch one day at the Living Room Kitchen & Bar, I had asked for the empty table that had a lovely view of the lake but the host mentioned that a party was coming in in 20min, which I was fine with as I had merely walked in without a reservation. He directed me to another table and I enjoyed my lunch. After about an hour in, I kept an eye on the table and there was still no sight of said party(of two) coming in in '20min'. When I had first walked in there were only about 3-4 tables seated and during the time I was seated to the time I had paid, only 2 parties had come to dine. It was quite disappointing.
Overall, the hotel is beautiful, clean and is situated in the perfect location but it does need some work on guest recovery. You expect(and pay for) a certain standard knowing you're at The Ritz but unfortunately The Ritz, Geneva dropped the ball. It is not my first time staying at The Ritz but it may be my last due to...
Read more…It is closer to a top tier Marriott Property. Having stayed in many RC and JW properties around the world, this property has little to offer other than a reasonably good location in what is an obscenely expensive city.
We paid for (and received) and suite for three on the top/fifth floor, a location which was heavily merchandised as a premium location upon check-in. It was a modestly appointed room, ensuring every significant item had a price tag ($200/Robe. $50/Umbrella). The room was advertised on Marriott’s site as king one-bedroom, separate sitting area and two bathrooms - which is very deceptive. The King bedroom and sitting area is accurate. There is one complete bathroom split between a water closet and shower tub room. Overall very quirky mechanical and technical features, including internet that seemed to constantly kick us out.
The “top” floor was a gem. It is their fifth floor, with the sixth floor above used (we think) as a service floor. We learned upon being woken up to what sound like an elephant march at 7:00AM. After complaining we received the response “thank you for letting us know and we’ll correct tomorrow”. Got a bit better through our four day stay, but still enough to wake us up in the morning.
We inquired about a day trip to Chamonix and Concierge quoted C56/person/C168 for three via email. Upon calling the Concierge the evening prior to finalize, we were then told the price was C400+. We were able to clear up the “confusion” and enjoyed a beautiful day in Chamonix (highly recommend).
Spent our last full day in Montreux at the Christmas markets, having taken the train from Geneva station. It was a wonderful experience (highly recommend) and upon return to our suite realized the electricity was out. We backed our bags for departure via iPhone flashlight while the staff took 30 minutes to assess and turn back on. We received repeated questions through the process as to if we plugged something in to outlets which may have caused the outage, suggesting it was our fault (excuse me?).
Again, don’t mistake this property for a RC, it is not. Staff is very well trained to apologize for hiccups, but it doesn’t make up for a flawed business model.
We would highly recommend visiting Switzerland but should have listened to the advice of a fellow traveler three weeks earlier in our travels - “Stay away from Geneva and Zurich, as they are not worth the Franc. Enjoy the smaller cities and you’ll be glad you...
Stayed in an upgraded Jr Suite on the 4th Floor as we were here on our Honeymoon and my wife is a Titanium Status member. Great gesture right out of the gate but it went south from there the rest of the stay. ||For a Ritz property the employees are ultra polite which is what one would expect but the delivery behind the BS; terrible. Words don’t fix the issues we had; tools and common sense do. ||Room had major issues with drains; one bathroom sink, soaking tub and shower to a minor degree. Sink flooded the entire bathroom the first day while running the sink for simple toothbrushing and face washing. Reported to the front desk in the am of our first day and when we got back nothing had been done except to cover up the issues. ||We had the head housekeeper, the housekeeper and a manger in the room promising the repairs would be completed the next day. The housekeeper just placed the broken parts back in place as if nothing was wrong. We watched this happen and they didn’t seem fazed by it. ||Four days later the issues were not fixed. We checked out as planned and they told us they were “sorry…”||Also, we had a watch making class on property they could not honor the time on the last day and because of this we left without the class. ||Room services is less than consistent as I ordered the exact same thing three mornings and all days it was delivered differently and different temperatures. If you say you are dining for two it might make sense to bring two sets of silverware and two napkins. Not in this place. You order a decaf cappuccino and a regular and they don’t indicate which is which. It is a guessing game for breakfast!!! Called down and they said “we always put the decaf on the right.” I am supposed to know this? She said we will mark them going forward. What a wonderful idea!!!||Lastly, if you need your car from the valet you should know it is parked a far distance away and|the 20 minutes they quote is laughable. ||Not going to lie; this was a massive disappointment for a hotel of this caliber and reputation. We are not the only ones, BTW as another couple in all Dior was loosing their mind with their own hotel issues this am upon...
