We are visiting Grindelwald from abroad and ordered a meal here for lunch. Halfway through the meal, the waitress asked if we still wanted one of the dishes (risotto) that she said hadn’t been started yet (we had ordered it late). We said yes. Less than 30 seconds later, we ran in to ask her if we could actually cancel the risotto. We watched her communicate with the chef in the kitchen and told us it was totally fine.
When we asked for the check, the manager at the restaurant - I believe her name was Tanya (spelling?) eventually came and said the waitress was now telling her a different story (which we confirmed with the waitress she did not do) and we had our facts wrong. She said we had to pay for the risotto.
They kept telling us the dish “can be prepared for takeaway,” despite us reiterating we did not want that. Despite an extensive back and forth, we were forced to pay for a dish we never received. At some point, you realize you’re in a foreign country and you give up fighting. Hopefully my credit card company can take care of this.
In summary, we watched the waitress confirm with the kitchen and THEN tell us it was totally okay to cancel. The manager then lies and tells us we have our facts wrong and forced us to pay for the dish. To be clear, we told them: had we been told it was too late to cancel, we would have happily paid. But that’s simply not what happened.
Pretty shocked at how this restaurant (and the manager in particular) treats customers. They make a mistake on their end and force the customer to bear the cost of the mistake. I’ve never seen or experienced this in any service experience.
I would not recommend...
Read moreWe spent two nights in Grindelwald and then spent 3 nights in Zermatt on a trip to Switzerland and while we were in Grindelwald, we stayed at the Bergwelt. The restaurant inside our hotel was booked and we were referred to check out their sister restaurant, Pinte, which was basically down a long flight of stairs. Pinte was also booked for the night but the extremely nice and very friendly woman, I believe her name was Matilde, offered us a table outside. While it was raining and chilly out, there was an awning to keep us dry and she brought out these really beautiful pelt blankets to cover ourselves. While our situation did not seem ideal It was a lovely experience sitting out in the rain by candlelight with my partner, admiring the breathtaking landscapes, enjoying a glass of wine, and tasting Swiss cuisine. We ordered the truffle cheese fondue and a meat board and it was hands down the best meal I had on my entire trip to Switzerland. The potatoes, bread, and pickles were amazing but the flavor of the cheese was unmatched. We did order fondue while we were in Zermatt too at a top restaurant and it just did not compare. We also ordered the chocolate mousse to share for dessert and, my gosh, it was paired with a raspberry sorbet which you think would have a flavor clash but they mixed beautifully. Thank you Matilde for creating such a beautiful...
Read moreI dont usually give bad reviews but this will be the first.
This taller blonde long hair lady serve me during my time at this place. I was the first few that ordered. But the last to receive my food. I waited for 30 mins just for a bowl of fondue, 1 pax. While waiting, I try to give eye contact and been waiving at different waiters but none of them give attention to me. They gave more attention to the locals. I was even sitting at their line of sight. There are total 4 waiters and the restaurant isnt full at the point when I am there. So why cant i get any waiter attention?
When i finally get an attention of one of the waiter, she said that she dont know how long my food will come and will help me to check but still no news. Only after i get the attention of the ‘manager’, and said i waited for 25mins then my food came. And the same tall blonde lady waiter gave me and said something wrong with the kitchen? While all of the other customers got their food. Midway, ask this tall blonde waiter again and she asked me to wait and never came over.
I am not a trouble maker and just want to enjoy the food at this restaurant. But the overall experience here isnt good at all. The fondue is salty and I wasnt even asked for any drinks to order.
There are plenty of other restaurant out there. Just not this...
