I booked the hotel directly from the website as it is much cheaper.||Location wise, this is walkable from the train station and also walkable to the cable car going up the First.||I was informed that from 1200-1400h the reception is closed. I went there at 1215h due to my train ticket. I reached there and manage to find one of the staff there to request to just put my luggage. She accommodate my request to stored the luggage in a area while I went out to get a bite before coming back at 1400h for the check in.||The check in was smooth, payment was collected during check in so I do not have to worry later. I got the 1 bed room with a shared bathroom. The shared bathroom is shared with another unit. The bathroom and the room itself were very clean. There is a heater there but didn't use it because it was not that cold. The room is not too small as I can just open up my luggage on the floor as well. Window in the room was facing the main street.||Note that there are units with ensuite washrooms as well. There are also options to have a room facing the mountains as well with balcony at a different price. So these are variability built in with the prices||There is no lift visible so I have to carry up the luggage myself which is not a problem for me.||I had also made a small request to store my small cous cous dinner in their shared fridge and they willingly accommodate to my request. They also loan me a spoon to have my dinner in the room.||Next morning had a great breakfast. It is almost like a buffet. The friendly owners prepared coffee, cheese and bread for us. I had some Muesli Bircher which is nice as well. Check out early in the morning to deposit my luggage to climb the mountains.||When I came back in the late afternoon to get my deposited luggage, they also kindly ask if I want to take a shower before I go.||I am so grateful for the kind hotel hospitality and I am happy to return to the same place is there is availability and...
Read moreWe had an incredible stay in Grindelwald, the views from the room were absolutely astounding and a joy to wake up to every morning, worth the price alone for them as they are unobstructed by other hotels, being on the right hand side of the main street.
The beds were really comfortable and nice and clean, the pillows were on the thinner side for myself but my partner really liked them.
Monika went above and beyond with the included breakfast, bringing fresh breads/pastry to our table with various jams and drinks of our choice, which we could then accompany with food from the buffet table.
Check-in was easy and really made us feel welcome, she had great suggestions and was able to answer the questions we had.
For those hitting the slopes there is also the separate lockable storage for skis and boots which was great to have, there was also boot heaters.
If we ever come back to beautiful Grindelwald again we will be booking a room again...
Read moreThe Hotel Tschuggen in Grindelwald is clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, central and very convenient to the station, tourist information centre and restaurants/shops. We travelled as a family of three and the family room (2 bedrooms with bathroom) was just right for us. We had a street-facing room, and we hadn't realised just how busy the main street in Grindelwald can be, but shutting the street-side windows minimised the noise. The proprietors are wonderful - so friendly and helpful (and so kind about my attempts to practice my abysmal German). Hotel Tschuggen's place on my "must return" list was secured by the unexpected presentation of a home-made chocolate cake - complete with candle - at breakfast on our second day, which was our son's birthday. That kind of magical, personal touch is priceless, and very much...
