The service has been horrible. With maybe the exception of one lady at breakfast who was kind I think her name is Paula. I’m writing this review tonight because I’m appalled at how unfriendly and cheap this hotel is to their customers despite the price. I am here for a week with a child and we are staying in a lodge with a kitchen. We were making a gingerbread house tonight for Christmas and I needed two egg whites to make icing. In a rush with a 4 year old waiting to make the gingerbread house I ran down to the front desk to see if I could get 2 eggs from the kitchen. The man and the woman discussed it and said no. And I asked if they could ask the kitchen and she told me to sit aside and she helped other people and ignored me until she realized I would just be standing there and repeatedly told me to go to the grocery store. Mind you it’s snowing and cold and I ran down without a coat and in yoga pants thinking this would just be a quick errand and my lodge is in a completely different building on the outside. It would just be so much easier and faster for her to just be nice and give me 2 eggs in the Christmas spirit. Especially considering how long I’m staying here and how much this place costs. I let her know I would appreciate if she would just ask the kitchen and she came back and stated I would be charged 1 CHF per egg and what room should she charge it to? What am I going to negotiate a price of an egg but really charging 2 CHFs for eggs I could get for free especially since we are paying for breakfast everyday. I just told her my room number and ran back to continue the Christmas activities and not let her ruin my night. But I am compelled to write this review because it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I never would’ve said anything but her petty cheapness and her condescending attitude telling me to go to a grocery store is what put me over the edge and now I’ll be detailing all the little problems I’ve noticed from the start including a transfer from the train station that never arrived. We called and called and they kept saying it was on the way and after over 20 minutes in the cold we decided to walk with our big bags and a child to the hotel in the snow at night. Then when we had someone show us to our room after checking in, he grabbed one of the big bags and left the other for me to take by myself. Why not use the cart or send another person to help instead of having the tired traveller who was not picked up from the train have to lug it herself. Then when a bag was delivered by the airlines (because it was lost) they didn’t send it up for at least an hour—even though we talked about it numerous times. I called ahead, emailed, and let them know at checkout because it had all the warm clothes for the baby. The rooms are incredibly hot so I am sleeping with the window open but there’s someone plowing snow outside at 11pm. The hotel itself is in a great location and the rooms need an update but are fairly large in size. So far we have not been able to connect to the Internet, using the Free Grindelwald one instead. Breakfast is okay—not much available to order except a fried egg, an omelette and something else basic and the food that is out is not worth what they charge. The coffee machine is confusing and there was a 5 person back up to use it. Why not have people take orders at the machine instead? If you are on the fence I would not choose this place—so far it’s been ok but the lady tonight with her unfriendly and unpleasant tone made me feel wish I wasn’t spending a family holiday here. Our Airbnb hostess last week in Montreaux was so amazing and friendly and accommodating it made me wish we had not opted for a hotel.

We booked 2 single rooms & stayed at Eiger Selfness Hotel in May23 for 3 nights: Rooms: It was a mixed bag... Both rooms were spacious, I liked the stone wall by the desk & liked the strong flushing toilet too. There were 2 USB plugs by the bed which was handy. However, the rooms were very stuffy if we didn't open the balcony door. Especially when we first walked inside or every time when we returned to our rooms in the evening, as there was no air ventilation inside. It was very hot & impossible to sleep on our first night as we weren't warned to leave the balcony doors opened. (There was no air con.) In the bathroom, there was also no extractor fan. The only way to let the smell or steam out of the bathroom was to open the window, which was also attached to the corridor where people walked pass. In addition, the sound proof in the rooms was quite poor too. I could hear people walking loudly upstairs, or every time when people opened the balcony doors, shutting the doors, people chatting on the pavement outside...etc. until every early morning. Mattress, pillows, also not comfy at all. I also didn't expect one of our rooms were located at the opened corridor. The rooms were at the back of the building, it's a bit of a walk from the front of the hotel. It's not what we expected as we didn't feel we stayed at the same hotel, the building at the back was not as grand as the front facing the high street, which was a bit disappointing too. Location: It's right in the middle of the village. i.e. approx 5-7 mins walk from both Grindelwald train station & First cablecar station, it'd take longer if you walking up with luggages from the train station. It's only a 5 mins walk to Coop as well but there was also another supermarket a minute away. The most famous Berry's restaurant in Grindelwald was also right at the hotel. 5 out of 5 in terms of location. Service: Staffs were friendly, they always came to chat to all customers during breakfast. During our stay, most of the staffs would say good morning or evening to us whenever we walked pass. What we liked the most was their generous refilled minibar, drinks & a bag of cracker were refilled each day. The only slight downside was the hotel didn't grant our requests (at the time of booking) to give us rooms on a higher floor as we were both light sleepers. Breakfast: For hot food section, they had sausages, eggs (scrambled, fired, omelette), bacon, different tasty fruit puddings. For cold food section, you'd find everything you'd expect to find for a good continental breakfast. I particularly loved their fruits yoghurt & different types of juice. We loved their breakfast afterall. Overall, I would recommend Eiger Selfness Hotel to anyone who visited Grindelwald during the colder months, as in the summer the rooms would be too hot to sleep. Next time if we come back, we'd pay a bit more to stay at one of the suites on the higher floor at the main building. Afterall, its location, service, breakfast, were all 5 stars but let down by the sleeping quality.

A very bad experience with environment and service completely mismatched with the price. 1)The insects and mosquito problem was extremely severe, making it difficult to sleep for three nights, greatly affecting my well-being and itinerary. There were many insects and mosquitos in the room. They would fly around my ears and bite my fingers, joints, and face, causing unbearable itching. As soon as I entered the bathroom, there were already 3 to 4 large insects and mosquitos, and it took at least 5 to 6 sprays of mosquito repellent to get rid of them. Moreover, they were accustomed to flying near the ceiling, so it took about an hour of struggle to deal with them. Due to the severity of the mosquito problem, it was impossible to get any sleep, and when I checked with the front desk, I was informed that they wouldn't be available until 9 or 10 in the morning. On the morning of the third day, when the front desk finally opened, I asked if it was possible to change rooms / get a room with air conditioning / provide mosquito repellent / or any other solutions. However, the male staff member on the phone had a bad attitude and directly responded that the "Old Hotel" didn't have air conditioning. I understand that, but when I asked if there were any other solutions, he completely ignored my question. We also sent an email to the hotel staff, and a staff named Saskia replied that there were no other available rooms and she directly stated that "Grindelwald doesn't have mosquitos or insects". It had already severely affected the quality of sleep for two nights, and to finally receive such a response when the staff came to work was frustrating. We are not that bored to waste our time making up stories about mosquitos, so we attached several photos of mosquito bites in the email. Only then did she respond that they could provide mosquito spray, but even after waiting for a whole day and night until check-out, we still hadn't received it. In the end, we gave up on the hotel's "service" and bought mosquito repellent from the supermarket at our own expense. 2)The receptionist during check-in was quite strange. We were required to sign some documents and agree to certain rules. We thought we would be given a copy for ourselves, but they didn't provide one and took the documents away, making it difficult to find basic information such as the front desk's phone number and afternoon tea time later on. 3) As mentioned by the male staff member on the phone, this is an "Old Hotel", with very dim lighting. There was no light at all in the bathtub area so it was very dangerous. the wooden boards had a musty smell. The electrical outlets closest to the bed were also quite far away, and when using the hairdryer, it would frequently come loose, requiring me to reinsert it every 10 seconds. 4) I reserved a studio room with the intention of cooking, but the cooking stove was positioned right in front of the bed, and the heat output was weak.

I recently stayed at this hotel. While there were aspects of my stay that I genuinely enjoyed, especially some of the great interactions with the staff members (the names Jana and Melanie come to mind), there were also several disappointments that are worth noting.

The Good:

Stunning View: The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the view. The scenery was breathtaking and truly added value to the experience, despite not getting the full mountain view I had requested months in advance. We ended up with a partial view, which was still beautiful, but not what we were hoping for.

Great Location: The hotel is conveniently located between several fantastic attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. It was easy to get around and enjoy everything the destination had to offer.

Renovated Bathroom: The bathroom was recently renewed, which was a pleasant surprise. It was modern, clean, and well-maintained, a definite plus in an otherwise inconsistent room.

Delicious Breakfast: Although the breakfast spread was basic, the food was fresh and delicious. It was a great way to start the day, with enough variety to satisfy without being overwhelming.

The Bad:

Ice Situation: One of the most frustrating parts of the stay was the ordeal of getting ice. Initially, we received ice without any trouble, but after that, it became an uphill battle. We were told that ice had to be ordered from housekeeping before 5 PM, which seemed absurd. After that we were told that if we wanted ice we’d have to go to the bar to get it ourselves, and they would only give us very small amounts, near the end of stay, when we went down to get the ice ourselves, we were scolded for doing so. The whole situation was confusing and unnecessary, staying in a hotel that’s supposedly known for its amazing bar we were left wondering what the deal with the ice shortage was.

Tiny TV: The room featured a TV that was almost laughably small—think Michael Scott's TV from The Office. It was so tiny that it was basically unusable, which was disappointing for those who might want to unwind with some television.

Half-Renovated Rooms: While the bathroom was nicely updated, the rest of the room felt like it had been left behind in the renovation process. The furnishings was dated, which detracted from the overall comfort.

Dirty Balcony: The balcony, which should have been a place to enjoy the beautiful view, was not well-maintained. There was a spider web hanging in the corner, which made it feel neglected and unclean.

Mountain View Mix-Up: Despite requesting a room with a mountain view two months in advance, the staff insisted during check-in that such views were not guaranteed. This was frustrating, especially since the partial view we ended up with was not what we had hoped for.

Phishing Payment Links: Another concerning issue was receiving phishing payment links from what appeared to be the hotel’s account. When I brought this up with the hotel, they claimed it wasn't them sending the messages. This left a bad taste in my mouth, as it made me worry about the security of my personal information.

In conclusion, this hotel has its charms—chief among them the view and the efforts of staff members like Jana and Melanie—but it also has significant drawbacks that need addressing. While I don’t regret staying here, I’m not sure I’d choose this hotel again, especially with the issues around cleanliness, room quality, and the puzzling ice policy. With some improvements, it could be a great place to stay, but as it stands,...

Im overall amazinlgy satisfied with this hotel and its staff. The location is great, the staff is incredibly forthcoming, the whole hotel ist very tidy and and very well organized. You could stay the whole time in the hotel itself and have enough to do! From the moment I booked the room on the customer service was top quality. The team makes efforts to make the stay the best way for the clients - even with special wishes they put all effort in. We were welcomed very warmly and we felt taken care of at all times during the whole stay! We stayed 2 nights & booked the loveroom special. (totally worth it and I recommend it to couples who want to have a romantic time) The room was very big with balcony and an amazing view and was decorated with so much love and detail!! We luckily had amazing weather & therefore we were able to enjoy some coffees and drinks on the balcony! The gym has a big variety of machines and equipment. They also offer group trainings! The spa offers massages (very well done!), private whirlpool with oil essences (amazing - totally recommend to book it!), different kinds of saunas - also very tidy and taken care of! I would have wished the spa to be open a little sooner - but since there is plenty to do in Grindelwald it was no big deal :) The restaurant Barry's is decorated with a lot of detail and you can feel the passion and love for food & wine. The food is really really yummy. We had fondue chinoise (the meat was very good quality, a big choice of sauces and side dishes) and cheese fondue, which was sooo creamy and yummy. We also tried a glass of the "Big Bottle" on Tuesday which was amazing! They even put extra effort on putting a happy birthday sign on the table and extra dessert with candles for the birthday boy! The Breakfast buffet offers a lot of various food! I really liked the fruit plate we got with our room package and they generally garnish desserts with fruits, which i loved! We want to say a special thanks to Melanie who welcomed us to the Hotel so warmly and amazing, Lilly who took care of us at our first dinner in such a special way, Dayana who showed us around the Spa and organized the Birthday surprise for my boyfriend, Linda who served us breakfast and also a wine at the Bar with such a lovely smile and positivity and hospitality and Alice whom I had contact with via e-mail and telephone, also very forthcoming and lovely! Also thanks a lot to the hosts who took time to write a birthday card. You can feel that the staff is happy to work at the hotel and share a common passion with each other. We felt super comfortable all time around, the whole atmosphere in the hotel is very professional but also easy going not posh or over the top. We really liked the fact that we fitted right in. Sometimes with high * hotels you feel underdressed or that you dont fit into the general clientele, but in this case not at all!! We have plenty of reasons to come back!

We had a fantastic time, were treated amazingly, had yummy food and drinks and were able to enjoy our get-away a 150%! Thanks so much to the whole team, we appreciate your effort and we'll be...
