Nestled in the heart of Grindelwald, Base Camp is the perfect après-ski spot, offering a laid-back atmosphere, hearty flavors, and stunning mountain views. Whether you're winding down from an adrenaline-packed day on the slopes or simply looking for a welcoming spot to enjoy a cold beer with friends, this restaurant delivers on all fronts.
One of the standout dishes of the night was the peri-peri chicken—a flavorful, juicy masterpiece with just the right amount of heat. The spice blend was bold but balanced, complementing the tender, perfectly cooked chicken. Served with crispy fries and a fresh side salad, it was a satisfying meal that hit the spot after a long day on the mountain.
Of course, no après-ski experience is complete without a round of drinks, and Base Camp’s selection does not disappoint. The beer list features a solid mix of local Swiss brews and international favorites, making it an ideal place to kick back and swap ski stories with friends. The cozy ambiance, complete with rustic wooden décor and a warm, friendly crowd, enhances the experience, making you want to linger just a little longer.
And then, there were the desserts—an absolute must. Whether you opt for a rich chocolate cake, a classic Swiss-style apple tart, or something decadent with a touch of alpine flair, you’re in for a treat. The desserts were not just delicious but beautifully presented, making the perfect sweet ending to an already stellar meal.

Read moreWe ate here twice on a recent trip to Grindelwald and had a wonderful experience both times. First time was on our first day in Switzerland for a late lunch/snack. We were immediately struck by the cozy atmosphere and friendliness of the staff who greeted us from behind the bar and told us we could choose our seats. Plenty of options - bar, regular tables, comfy seating with low-top tables, upstairs and down. We chose a low-top for a more conversational atmosphere. We had beers and a delicious take on Swiss rosti which took small potatoes and stuffed them with cheese (rather than on top like usual) and accompanied on the plate with perfect pickled vegetables. It was a large portion and exactly what we wanted. A few days later we were searching for dinner on a Sunday night, which is tough since many places are closed on Sundays particularly before the ski season really kicks off, and decided to try Base Camp, which was thankfully open. We received the same warm greeting from the staff and chose a high-top table this time. We selected drinks and food and it didn’t take long for us to be presented with a lovely amuse-bouche, compliments of the chef, and then a plate of focaccia and bread dip which was delicious. My husband and I split the beef ribs and the hamburger and we were very pleased with both. The portion sizes were large, even for our American sensibilities, and the flavors were on point. While the menu isn’t large, there is a good variety of options and they had one or two specials that night, as well. The drinks were also creative and well-balanced. I can’t say enough about the incredible staff on both visits - so friendly, inviting, helpful (even suggested other restaurants in town that we should check out), and just lovely. Thank you, Base Camp, for giving such a great start to our...
Read moreI cannot speak highly enough about our experience at Basecamp Grindelwald. On the very first night of our stay, my wife and I had the good fortune of meeting Lukas, the manager of Basecamp, while dining at Barry’s—another fantastic restaurant owned by the same hospitality group. From the moment we struck up a conversation, Lukas’s warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality stood out. Not only did he offer us incredible local recommendations, but he also made us feel truly welcomed from the start.
Following our encounter, we decided to visit Basecamp—and it quickly became our go-to spot for the remainder of the trip. The ambiance at Basecamp is second to none, with stunning alpine views that capture the essence of Grindelwald’s natural beauty. Whether enjoying a sunset drink or a cozy evening meal, the setting was consistently picturesque and inviting.
The menu is exceptional, and I would be remiss not to mention the smash burgers, which were hands down some of the best we’ve had—not just in Switzerland, but anywhere in Europe. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and complemented by a thoughtfully curated drink selection, each meal at Basecamp was a highlight of our trip.
More than just a restaurant, Basecamp became a place we looked forward to visiting each evening—not only for the outstanding food and atmosphere, but for the incredible team of staff who made every visit feel personal and memorable. Lukas and his team played a significant role in making our trip to Grindelwald truly unforgettable.
We will absolutely be returning—and until then, we’ll be recommending Basecamp to anyone...
