My first incident of racism & fraud in Europe. Extremely heartbreaking and disappointing.
We had a pleasant experience dining here until we asked for the bill from a female waitress, Ansari stepped in to tell her that he will handle it.
The bill stated that it was 90.2 CHF. We had 3x30 CHF dining vouchers from the airline and were told that we could use the voucher with a service charge. When the bill came, Ansari told us that it is 90.2 CHF with a 10% service charge. We gave him the vouchers worth 90 CHF, and bills & coins worth 20.2 CHF.
He then returned with 10 CHF change. I proceeded to question him, if the service charge was 10%, shouldn’t we get back more than 10CHF in change? He took out 1 CHF to return to us and I asked for the receipt for the meal.
I then saw that the service charge was not stated on the receipt and I asked him, where is the service charge on the receipt? He said that there will be no receipt issued for the service charge and they never issue receipts for service charge. I told him that in my years dining out I have never once been charged a service charge where a receipt cannot be issued.
His next line shocked me as this was the first incident of racism which I have faced in my years of travelling in Europe, “this is why we do not usually accept Chinese people like you”. I was shocked but was adamant on getting the receipt. He then took back the 1 CHF he previously gave us and returned a 10 CHF bill to us and told us to forget about the service charge. He then repeated, “this is why we don’t like Singaporean Chinese”.
From a well established restaurant, I did not expect to face my first ever racist encounter which I will not forget coupled with potential fraud. We had every right to understand the bill we paid for and I did not know why race had to come into the question.
Furthermore, it is extremely concerning and alarming that a receipt cannot be issued for the service and upon questioning, the service charge need not be paid anymore. Unfortunately, I was rushing for my flight and could not get the authorities involved in this potential fraud.
Update: The restaurant has since informed me via email that they parted ways with the staff member in question to ensure that such an incident does not happen again and that discrimination of any kind has no place in their restaurant. I appreciate the team for taking swift action and will patronise again the...
Read moreHad an absolute horrid experience here. The food itself was very mediocre. I don't have much comments about it.
The service was however, appalling. The seating was self assigned and we are to order and pay online by ourselves. When our food arrived, we were shocked by the waitress who slammed our food onto the table. I learned that her name is Tanya from her colleague, but without a name tag it is difficult to verify. I can only say she is a shorter, plumper woman in her mid 40s. I then requested for an extra bowl and without replying me she hurriedly walked away. I assumed she did not hear me so I raised my hands to ask another waitress. This time round Tanya came back and said in a condescending tone 'I heard you. It is here.' while simultaneously tapping her ears. True to form, she then threw the bowl onto our table again.
Please note that we had absolutely 0 interactions with Tanya before our food was served, so I am unsure of what we did to warrant this behaviour. Not that it should have been a justification anyway. I sincerely hope it is not racially motivated.
When I requested for her name, she argued with me and stated that she was not supposed to serve us and was merely helping her friend out. I stated flat out that regardless, I don't see how that justification is relevant to our treatment. She then walked away without telling me her name.
Absolutely disappointing and disgusting...
Read moreLooks like a more expensive but worthwhile place to have a Hot Drink .....BUT mine was luke warm and my croissant was not tempting at all ..cold and hard? Strange in Zurich airport where you would expect better?
But maybe not as it turns out to be an Asian restaurant in disguise!
The service was zealous yet evasive (weird mixture?) - zealous in an aggressive way too.
The waitress in particular is the one referred to in the last review & definitely needs retraining.. is Heidi - and not the one I spoke to when i left who was Bea & seems to have taken on board my valid points.
Who wants table service when it is more like being pinned your seat by a nanny!(Heidi) and told firmly to wait there to be served by someone other than herself?
I got up twice after finding a seat (not easy) to find some service. My Swiss Hot chocolate was tepid/cold and so I drank it quickly and therefore very much in need of a normal glass of tap water served with coffee to finish off the unappetizing stale? expensive croissant.
Bea was on her way with it but Heidi stalled her and kept her whilst again I was waving for attention/water.
Then when my water was placed on the table - no eye contact quickly walking away before I could ask to pay.
I chose to go on my way and wait by the gate rather than remain in the Awful Center Bar.
Do not waste your time there until service is...
