On the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel we tried La Croix d'Ouchy and were incredibly pleased that we did so. We did not have reservations on a Friday night shortly after 7:00 pm, however we were able to be seated outside immediately. Not speaking French, we did struggle a bit with the menu. Due to the limited assistance provided by Google Translate we chose to place our faith in our waiter (whose name I unfortunately do not recall). Despite the language barrier (again, we speak no French, and his English was at times difficult for our ears to understand) we took all of his recommendations. He did a fantastic job with his suggestions, and both my wife and I enjoyed the best meal of our trip in Switzerland so far.
My wife had a wonderful veal dish whose name escapes me which was both flavorful and tender, while I ordered the best Beef Stroganoff I have ever eaten. The evening was topped off with a lovely chef's choice dessert that was principally ice cream with a delicious chocolate sauce, the name of which again escapes me.
In short, I would highly recommend La Croix d'Ouchy for anyone looking for a wonderful meal with a nice ambiance. Thank you for providing us with such a nice dining experience during our visit to...
Read moreWe had dinner at croix d'ouchy on 29 May 2021, one of the first reopening evenings after the lockdown. I hope this is why the service was inattentive and extremely slow, sometimes even rude (they brought the bottle of wine and left it on the serving table forgetting to pour it. The dishes never came together, forcing us to wait and let them cool, the parmesan requested arrived when I had finished eating the pasta, the bread was finished in the middle of the evening and was no longer available to accompany the second course.) To err is human, and a sincere "sorry" would have made all these mistakes easily forgivable. Bet they never apologized.
I would not define the cuisine as “Italian” by the way (you won’t ever find an Italian restaurant serving pasta as a side dish) but more “swiss/french/italian”.
It’s a pity, since the atmosphere in the garden is really nice and cuisine was good. But I don’t think I’ll ever...
Read moreI had dinner on my own at La Croix d’Ouchy and the experience was simply exceptional! From the moment I stepped inside this charming restaurant, I felt genuinely welcomed. One of the waiters kindly translated the entire menu into English for me, and another noticed me eyeing the dishes he was carrying. He paused to explain what they were without me even asking.
When I placed my order, I forgot the name of the salad I had liked. A few minutes later, the same thoughtful waiter came over and asked if I actually meant the one he had shown me earlier. He had picked up on the mix-up and corrected the order to match my preference (such attention to detail)!
Everyone was incredibly polite and professional, with just the right touch of warmth not overly formal, just genuinely kind.
Here’s a photo of my veal (I was too hungry to snap one of the salad - it was phenomenal!). I highly...
