I’m so glad we got to eat here! On the train from Paris, we were advised that this was one of the best fondue places in Zürich. It has been family owned for 50 years. We could not get a reservation so we showed up at 8 o’clock. The lovely owner was very hospitable to us and we were able to have a table immediately. She did inform us that she had a reservation at 9 o’clock, but one hour was plenty of time for us.
It’s very cozy and quaint. I felt like I was in an old Swiss fondue restaurant from days of old. It appeared to be a lot of locals there. We enjoyed some white wine at her recommendation. We started with a green salad, which was delicious. Then we had cheese fondue for two with bread and potatoes And a side of pickles for dessert. We had the chocolate mousse. It was a real treat! Everything was delicious! They were also very warm and courteous. I highly...
Read moreI can't put my finger on what turned the evening around. The fondue was good despite having been blessed with a hint too much of kirsch. The place felt "right" for fondue, with locals and seniors. But something did not felt quite right. It might have been the air, which could have used some changing since the week before. It might have been the lack of courtesy - its ok to be direct, but we're customers after all. It might have been the utter irrelevance of anything but the fondue in the menu. It wasn't anything specific, I'm afraid, nothing I would specifically complain. If I had been invited here I'd just say "yeah, it was nice" and I would be sincere. However, it was the kind of experience that you do once, maybe twice, and then you wonder if you should not instead try something else. I guess this place was just not quite...
Read moreCame in with a reservation and literally got mocked and laughed in the face by the older woman who greeted us at the door. Possibly the manager/owner. Not really sure why she did this, I guess she didn’t completely understood me when I was speaking to her. Maybe the fact that i’m a person of color made her react to my presence in this specific way. Her attitude was so condescending that we felt horribly unwelcome and considered leaving. Ended up staying because we were hungry and didn’t want to go go through the fuss of finding a different place. The meal was fine, no complaints about the food. We ended up being served by a younger women who treated us well. But the level of service at the entrance was shockingly uncomfortable. If you don’t have the decency to be nice to people, don’t work in...
