Rendang House — Restaurant in Datong District

It is worth a try

I tried it out as I wanted to try another Indonesian Restaurant with good Rendang. And it was rated high on Google Maps. I did their buffet option of Rendang, Side veggies, tempura and a pastry.

Food: I have tasted better Rendang before, beef was a bit tough, and flavors didn't absorb enough into the meat. The fried vegetables was soft and soggy. Overall, it was ok to dine-in. Price was ok had to pay for rice and extras. It gets pricey. Cost (CP value) for quality is average at best. Service: The owner was polite enough, but wasn't helpful. I had to figure it out myself. Atmosphere: It was quaint, newly done and colorful with red colors and pictures of Indonesia, which made for pleasant experience.

Tip: Order by delivery it if you don't want to make the long trek for Rendang craving. Also use mini-oven or microwave for 4-5min. Does wonders...

I used to love going Rendang House. It really took me throughout my 4 years as a uni student but now, I can't say I will ever be back.

The food quality has decreased drastically. I PERSONALLY have received more lemongrass/ginger than beef chunks these days.

The service is slow. Even during peak hours like lunch and dinner.

The food service has also decreased. Getting served on a paper plate?? When I never ordered buffet??? Also a spoon was still dirty in the container.

Also paying before I get my food?? This is unusual. I know what I ordered. You know what I ordered, you have it documented. Yet I pay before?? What if there's a problem? Or I want to add more food during my service???
