Very unassuming old local place. There's no ambiance and it's pretty bare bones but the boss was very nice and smiley and the food was delicious and the portion size was HUGE for Taiwan.
I requested something that wasn't on the menu, beef tendon tomato soup and it was really really good. Not the best beef noodle soup I've had in Taiwan but definitely a solid Top 5 and the portion size made up for it. I also requested to 'add big' for an additional 30nt.
My husband got the standard Red braised beef noodle soup and his beef was so so tender. The picture doesn't show it but the beef was well marbled with tendon and braised for so long you barely even needed to chew it. I kept swapping my tendon for his beef!
We also ordered a portion of spicy oil Wontons and they were MASSIVE with a big fresh shrimp inside of each one. I highly recommend ordering this but you need to go to the restaurant when you're hungry, especially if you 'add big' like we did. It's a good thing my husband is a bottomless pit as he helped me finish my portion. The pictures don't do the size justice but my husband didn't want to be in the picture to show how large the bowls were. Filled to the brim too!
Definitely will return again when we're hungry. :)
Tips: Cash only and they don't sell beverages but there's a family mart next door and the boss suggested we go there to pick something up. Condiments and pickled mustard and spicy oil/etc; were by the refrigerator...
Read moreThe noodle was definitely Al dente,
Plethora of quality meat, tender, fat trimmed and cooked to perfection. Broth is rich, dark, not overwhelmed with herbs, and has a hit of sugar, However, the strong soy and sugar did covered up the meat flavor in the soup.
With a beef noodle shop on every corner in Taipei city, I quite liked this one.
Menu was extensive covering all combinations of noodle, rice, wonton dishes with beef, pork, chicken… and condiments such as hard boiled egg, dry tofu…. plenty to choose from.
The proprietor was a woman with few words, but Pleasant. We went around 2:15 in the afternoon, the place was packed.
Standard old mom and pop type of place, no decoration, small with few wooden table and chairs. Disposable chopsticks and plastic...
Read moreThis is the best beef noodle I have tried and I have been hoping around eating beef noodles as my Taipei trip objective. Deserves 5 stars. My dear Singaporeans will love this. The soup has a tinge of old style herbal taste and spice which is a Super big plus for me - my key evaluation criteria. The beef portion is generous and so tender, just melt in your mouth. The noodle is springy and goes so well with the soup....
