I stumbled upon a truly authentic culinary gem while searching for nearby restaurants on Google. It was the only place I've ever seen where the owner was bustling about, seemingly overwhelmed, yet continuously apologizing to customers. "I'm sorry," "Excuse me," and "Thank you" were the phrases I heard most frequently. The way they treated their guests was simply impeccable, and the owner exuded warmth and kindness.
Originally, I had set my sights on trying their secret menu item, the Scallion Pancake Rice Roll, but alas, it required a wait of two to three hours. Given my time constraints, I opted for the rice roll. As I hopped on my bicycle, the thoughtful owner placed the roll in my bike basket. With a final bow, they expressed their sincere apologies for the extended wait. Such politeness was truly remarkable.
The rice roll boasted an exquisite medley of flavors and textures. It was filled with crispy fried dough sticks, crunchy bits of seaweed, pickled radish, savory chicken, and savory shredded pork. With each bite, a harmonious blend of saltiness, sweetness, freshness, crispiness, and stickiness burst forth. The best part? It was incredibly affordable, incredibly filling, and offered outstanding value for money. I highly recommend this truly...
Review: A perfect entry point for a competitive eater challenge, a solid 9.5/10.
Ingredients: I ordered a two-in-one pancake, rice ball, and fried dough sticks for NT$85. Later, I added bacon, which made it NT$95. That's only NT$10 for two full strips! And I forgot to add the chili sauce.
Eating Experience: Oh my god, it was incredibly filling. As someone with a medium-large appetite, one whole strip is enough for me to split into three meals. It's not just the bacon; the bacon itself doesn't take up much space in my stomach. Seriously, it's incredibly large. I took a photo of it for reference; go see it for yourself. Eating the entire strip in one meal is definitely a competitive eater challenge! The flavors are surprisingly balanced, not at all greasy as I'd expected, and the various toppings aren't overpowering. The seasoning is definitely suitable for everyone (which is a good thing). Those who prefer a stronger flavor might want to ask the owner if they can make it a little spicy. Despite the amount of oil, the dish didn't feel overpowering at all (I didn't even notice a blood sugar spike in the afternoon). The balance of starches is truly remarkable. The only thing I'd like to tweak is a small amount of sugar sprinkled into the filling. Personally, I don't like sugar, but adding it adds a nice rounded flavor. The owner has already seen a long line of international customers, unexpectedly gaining international recognition. We've also seen companies and groups placing large group orders. Come and try it before the line gets too long!
Value: For three meals for NT$95, you might not even finish it, so what's the point?
Service: Honestly, there's not much to ask about this restaurant, but the owner is very friendly and quiet. Even when busy, he remains calm and professional. His attitude towards guests is as fresh as his food, and his portion sizes are as honest and generous as his people. It's truly fascinating to observe.
You can finish a meal and still feel good about it. I recommend signing up for the competitive...
Read moreAs everyone has mentioned previously, this place is a great place for taiwanese breakfast.
They make plain scallion pancakes, with toppings inside a rice roll, or their special - scallion pancakes with rice rolls and toppings!
They also make just the rice rolls with the toppings inside.
Lastly, they also have pan fried radish cakes as well.
Drink wise, they have soy milk - hot, warm or cold, sweet or unsweetened. They also have red tea mixed soy milk.
Fair price for everything. All cost 300 NT in total.
The best part of it all was the graciousness of the owners. Because we ordered 4 drinks, he said we get 1 free and they took off the expensive drink! I mean, it was 5NT, but its the little thing that counts. They really know how to do business. The couple were so so so nice! Will...
