I'd give this place a 4.5 if possible. TLDR - A good albeit expensive effort at bringing good tacos to Taipei.
Review: Ordered - 2x Carnitas, 2x Fish Tacos, 2x Some kind of Stewed Beef that wasn't Carne Asada.
Food: 4 The tacos were delicious. Flavor-wise better than when Masa first opened up. Reminded me of being in Texas or even Mexico City. The salas provided also had the right amount of kick. It's not a spicy kick but a kick nonetheless.
The carnitas tasted good but lacked pinapple. The stewed beef was delicious and the fish tacos, oh the fish tacos. There's a very good amount of crunch to the fish. Almost like I was reliving my time traversing Spanish Harlem chasing taco trucks.
The only detractors to the food are 1, the price, and 2, the tortilla. The price for the amount of food is rather depressing. The tacos are literally 2 bites. The tortillas being an issue is only a minor one. For some reason, they taste like Chinese wraps. Almost like a thicker a peking duck version.
Service: 4 The staff were great and hospitable. The restaurant almost got 5 full stars due to the fact they allow dogs. The issue though, is that the kitchen is slow. So unbearably slow. Though, I may change this a few visits down the line along with adding photos. They maybe figuring it all out as the restaurant's still fairly new.
Atmosphere: 5(?) Given a 5 due to the fact they allowed dogs. I didn't dine in, but spent about 45 minutes at the restaurant waiting for my order of 6 tacos. The decor is very much dark, edgy, night club cafe style. It had...
Read moreBefore visiting Nowhere, I have already been to 5 other Mexican taco places in Taipei City, such as Chale, FONDA and Teotihuacán. And in my humble opinion, this is by far my favorite one!! 🌮 Great food: might not necessarily be the most "authentic" flavor, but it just tastes as good as Chale (but less greasy) or Teotihuacán. However, they definitely offer much more options for food and drinks like noodles, rice bowls, kombucha, and other alcohol!😋 Most importantly, unlike other Mexican food places, you will really feel "full" if you order the menu sets (有點套餐的話,男生來吃也是真的可以吃飽的!不像其他台北的墨西哥菜...) Reasonable price: some Mexican places in Taipei are really overpriced, but here in Nowhere, considering their great food and service, I would say this is the best one, not to mention it's just right across from transport hub Taipei Main Station Polite and helpful staff: staff here are noticeably more patient and helpful than more popular Mexican places like FONDA or Chale More spacious: they have 2 floors. The ground floor is more like a bar, and the second floor has a lot of seats to stay with friends and to see sports channels. Much bigger than all 5 places I ever visited! Cleanliness: this place is unquestionably clean, just check out their washing room and you will know
Anyway my girlfriend and I just love this place so much, we will comer back with more friends for sure! 😋 Keep it up with your great food and...
Read moreBad Mexican food that doesn’t taste Mexican at all.
The typical experience when trying to have international food in Taiwan that is not Japanese or Korean: Expensive and bad quality, yet it looks nice and the Taiwanese love it. So, the place is full and people even give positive reviews because they just don’t know how Mexican food tastes.
These guys run a Mexican restaurant in Taipei but have no idea how to prepare Mexican food. This place would not survive a week in Mexico. It is not just the lack of the proper ingredients (sauces and spices) but also poor quality of the meat (cartilaginous) and tortillas (without salt). Most important is a lack of basic cooking skills in Mexican cuisine. These guys just don’t know what they are doing. The food wasn’t even mediocre. The only things tasting about half-way the taste they should have are non-Mexican dishes like french fries and chicken nuggets. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of just one is that it appears to be safe food in a solid ambience, yet not a Mexican one
In short: A disappointment....
