Plum Blossom Room (Brother Hotel) — Restaurant in Taipei

Surprisingly decent dim sum! Honestly, I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but being Cantonese, I am always curious to taste how my familiar comfort foods are in other countries.

The whole atmosphere, from the spaciousness of the restaurant, to the cart pushing (which we don't see too much in the States anymore post pandemic), to the sheer crowdedness and chaos seem very authentic, and other than the Mandarin instead of Cantonese, I felt right at home. Another thing I must note is that Taiwanese surely are much more quiet when dining than Cantonese!

Most of the items are pretty typical, but the har gow and char siu bao are absolutely exceptional! Everyone in the group was in agreement that this was some of the best we have had ANYWHERE, HK included.

Service is gruff by Taiwan standards, but I suppose it is no worse than what we've come to expect from Chinese restaurants in the States and elsewhere.

The location is conveniently located right smack dab in the middle of the busy Songshan District of Taipei, adjacent to the Nanjing Fuxing Station, and is actually part of a hotel.

Of course, when visiting Taiwan, I wouldn't necessarily choose dim sum as my first option, but if you are craving Cantonese cuisine, Hing Dai (which translates to "brother," "homie," etc.) is certainly not...

Well, today is my birthday and I am not going to lie. This is no longer the restaurant I know and I felt so shamed to invite my family for lunch today. The food quality and service are not up to standard anymore and strongly not recommended. The Roast suckling pig, the skin was hard like a rock and the meat stinks like body odour. The salty fish chicken rice did not serve with enough salty fish so the fried rice tasted was plain. The Tiger skin roll Shrimp did not serve with right sauce, black vinegar and the shrimp inside the roll was not fresh.

As service concerns, it was a normal Sunday lunch and the service was chaos like a local wet market and I need to stand up to look for waiter and waitress whenever I needed. Anyway, bad and terrible experience ever and this is no longer the restaurant that I would recommended to my family...

Not so small 的点心

A heraty meal at 兄弟 with my colleagues. We arrived at 1.10 pm today and took our seats after a number was assigned to us.

We sat and the trollies kept coming round our table. We ordered the usual famous dishes including the seafood beancurd roll, char siew pastry and signature steamed scallop pao and shark fin pao.

My goodness.. For a moment, I thought it was in Hong Kong. The char siew pastry is crispy on the outside and flavourful in the inside. The filling is slightly on the sweet side. The seafood beancurd roll is a must try. It is fried to perfection and you can savor the prawn and ingredients with each bite

I also need to mention that the lead service staff is extra attentive. She attended to us at all times even we are at a corner of the room.
