Niconico Yakiniku — Restaurant in Wanhua District

It was our last night in Taipei and we just wanted to take a break from all the night market dinners we've been stuffing our faces with. On a slight whim I decided to ask Ok Google, where's the nearest grilled beef?

Lo! This joint was just a couple of blocks away from our Airbnb. A giant brazier atop your dining table? We were there within 15 mins!

Standout dishes were the grilled onigiri (rolled in furikake then charred till crispy was a brilliant idea) and the cold Udon with the right amount of goma dressing and what I thought were snail trails of bottled mentaiko. Oh, and the scallops gratin was absolutely sinful (plus awfully simple) - placed in an aluminium foil tray topped with oodles of grated cheese, mix of mozza and cheddar perhaps.

We had better luck with the thinly sliced meat; just a slight sizzle and they were ready to be eaten. Choose the fatty ones! The cubed stuff (bara cube cut?) didn't fare so well on the charcoal grill; they turned out tough at times. Chicken was marinated perfectly and the rib-eye was pretty decent as well. Every time I visit Taiwan, this is a must visit restaurant! The selection of meats is top quality and the dishes are expertly crafted. The presentation is AMAZING—mouth-watering and delectable. Aside from meats, the seafood selection is also delicious. There’s also a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages - I would say that the alcohol choices pair well with the various dishes.

I loved all the variety of flavors. But, I do want to point out the salad. Ingredients were fresh and the flavors were well-balanced. It was also a good in-between appetizer among all the protein.

In regards to the indoor space, the ambiance is inviting and warm. Staff are attentive - seen especially with changing out the grill rack.

I had the most unique dinning experience on Friday @ Nico Grillroom!! My sisters and I went for their "Kobe beef" special promotion going on right now. The beef was fresh, top rated and it melt in the month after been grilling to your preference and seasoned only with salt and pepper. It was excellent!!! We ordered several of their other popular dishes and they were all very yummy. If you have not tried meat and seafood grilled with charcoals, I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was excellent also. The servers were polite and kept changing the grilling nets to ensure the food quality. They also have several flavors of ice cream free of charge as desert after the meal. The location of the restaurant is excellent also because it is right in the busy Ximending shopping district which you can stroll around after a full and satisfied meal.
