I am somehow disappointed with this Michelin restaurant. Before I went there, I read several good reviews about this restaurant. I guess maybe it is a good one when we look for Taiwanese-Sichuan taste.
From the environment, the entrance and surrounding area are impressive with the old-fashion look. In the restaurant, it is not quite spacious. The table is not in a decent size either. I had a 8 person round table. It can only fit three small appetitizers, 4 main dishes, and everyone's own utencils.
The taste is the main issue. I am used to the Sichuan food in NYC and from my Sichuan neighbors. Food in this restaurant is really not in the same level. The classic appetizer, fu-qi-fei-pian, is my most favorate dish when having Sichuan food. At Wu's, I received a plate of unevenly defrozen food with little to non spice. On the contrary, the restaurant served great non-spicy food. The orange-flavored fried chicken nugget is a good example.
Price at Wu's is probably comparable with that in NYC. So, if you have limited time in Taipei, I think it is a not big regret missing this restaurant. You can take a walk from Taipei 101 to this restaurant for pictures if you look for a setup oldtime...
Read moreThis was a delight! I like spicy foods so I'm a bit biased but I really really enjoyed the dishes here. The service was wonderful and exceptionally polite. Each dish was just amazing. Even the simple seaweed salad with chili oil at the beginning of the meal was just delicious. Hu Jia. Hu Jia. As someone who can cook quite the plethora of cuisines and dishes, I can tell that this restaurant maximizes each dish as much as possible. The spicy salt tofu was a marvel. Never had deep fried spicy salt tofu being so soft before. Our table did have an advantage though: the person ordering has been here many times before so knew exactly what to order. I definitely want to go back whenever I can manage to do so. Part of me is literally writing this review so I can find this place again...
Read moreWe were welcomed warmly by a lovely staff member, which made for a great start. Unfortunately, we got a bit unlucky with two of the dishes—both came out so heavy on the pepper that it felt like a whole bottle had been tipped in. The spice level itself was enjoyable, but the overwhelming pepperiness made them hard to finish.
It was a real shame, because the third dish we tried was tasty and showed the kitchen’s potential. With a little more balance in seasoning, the meal could have been excellent. The service, though, was genuinely kind, which we really...
