The complimentary appetiser which was the Thai crackers tasted savoury and quite delicious.
Chicken Phad Thai In Soup ($308): When it was delivered, the staff started to pour the sour and spicy soup.It was nice of them that they met my demands for not putting any vegetables in the bowl. The chicken cutlets were tender and the rice noodles were absolutely delightful and savoury, and a bit tangy.
Thai Green Tea ($90): It was sweeter than the matcha from the bubble tea stores.
Thai Tea Flan ($128): The 3 toppings were Coconut Jellies, Coconut Milk and the Thai Red Rubies dessert. The red rubies were absolutely amazing and it was my first time eating them. However, the pudding itself wasn’t too flavourful but tasted so much better than the original if you add all the toppings together with the pudding.
In conclusion, the service was quite efficient and the staff had great attitudes but the price was moderately high. Overall, it’s a 9.5 out of 10!
FYI, the 10% service charge is included...
Read moreI don't know enough about Thai food to comment on the authenticity of the flavors, but I really enjoyed the food here.
Out of all the dishes we tried, the grilled pork was easily the best - it was exceptionally flavorful and tender. The chicken satay was also pretty nice and had a great char. The pad thai was the best I've had in Taipei, but I would've liked a bit more lemon juice.
The coconut ice cream was fantastic, it's served with a great variety of condiments that all have unique flavors and textures - everything just comes together really well. Their thai iced tea and ginger lemon iced tea were also quite good.
The restaurant itself is a little cramped, but the overall atmosphere is pleasant. The service staff is very friendly and efficient - they bumped into our table once or twice, but that was understandable considering the partitions between the tables give them very little space to move around.
Definitely worth a try! I'm pretty happy to have randomly stumbled...
Read moreOverall it was a bit of a let down. Pay attention the choices are limited. Except for drinks and desserts, there are only 5 pad Thai dishes with 15 more dishes.
Our first dish was Miang Kana (เมี่ยงคะน้า), aka Kale Warp, the mix of the flavor was fine. The addition of crispy pork skin and chicken was appreciated. But the usual ingredients including garlic, roasted coconuts, and dried shrimp (all absent here) seems offer more kicks and excitement.
Second dish was Yam Moo Yang (ยำหมูย่าง), Pork Salad, was the worst dish of the day. The salad itself was quite dry, without any drip of any sauce. The dryness would have not been an issue if the flavor were there. However, the whole salad tastes bland. Not sour, not sweet, not spicy, nada. The spirit of Thai cuisine was nowhere to be found. Not to mention the pork itself was not tasty either... a total failure.
Third came the Green Curry Chicken (แกงเขียวหวาน). Love the ginger in the soup and the chicken was tender. Not sure about the addition of green cauliflower and the replacement by snow beans. The overall flavor was quite mild and lacks a bit of kicks too.
Our last dish was Shrimp Pad Thai Flavor-wise it’s a step higher than the rest of the dishes. I’m glad the picked radishes and the dried shrimp were present (the former was often left out). But I didn’t understand the reasoning why the bean sprouts were stir-fried with Pad Thai instead of being served on the side as condiments like other restaurants, or the award-winning Bangkok store do. Speaking of condiments, the amount of garlic chives provided was so small! The biggest problem was the shrimp. It should be the star but it was just bland. Not much flavor and certainly no freshness of seafood.
The most fragrant thing on the table, surprisingly, was the rice! Love the lemon grass smell. The drinks we had were all fine. The service was attentive enough. I love them wiping everything clean after the meal.
While I do appreciate that we have more choices of Thai food in Taiwan, I truly hope Baal Phadthai Taipei could improve itself and provide higher standard dishes.
I did not want to sound bitter. If I did, maybe I just miss Thailand and Thai food over there so...
