Chen Gen Zhao Cha — Restaurant in Xinyi District

Took a short cab ride here from Taipei 101 for less than $4 (US). There was a bit of a line at 11 on a weekend. You order and pay first. The cashier was helpful and kind - there is no English or picture menu and outside of pleasantries I speak no mandarin/taiwanese. I got the two most popular items, a French toast sandwich and egg crepe roll. Including coffee, breakfast for two was under $10 (US) even after getting a second order of the crepe roll. The coffee was surprisingly good and we were the only non-locals which is usually a good sign. It's within walking distance to the elephant mountain hike. By the time we left the line was long so I think getting there early is smart.

I had the opportunity to visit 陳根找茶 in Taipei with my fiancée on October 5, 2023. This place comes highly recommended by locals, who love to stop by after a night of clubbing.

The decor is simple and a bit on the older side, which adds to its charm. The standout of our visit was definitely the food. The egg pancake was delicious, with its crispy, toasted exterior making for a delightful crunch. The pork floss was wonderfully flavorful, and it significantly enhanced the taste of both the egg pancake and the toast.

One slight downside was the strong smell of cooking oil. After sitting for a while, our clothes did pick up the scent. However, the reasonable prices and the delicious food more than made up for this minor inconvenience.

In summary, 陳根找茶 is a must-try if you're in Taipei and looking for a local favorite with affordable prices...

I find hard to give a one star dont want to be negative but man Terrible, not sure why people line up for 49 min for take out only worst thing you can do early in the morning. Brakefast is super cheap if you like Macdonalds style brakefast which I dislike very much. Cheapest white Wonder bread with no crust cheap ham spam style and amazing process cheese for $3 which I threw In the garbage once I got it. My girlfriend was so upset she threw hers in the garbage as well, Latte is horrible milk taste like the little cream packages like they used 30 of them and got thrown in the garbage as well. I love Taiwan it's super cool and had no bad times until now. This is the worst time I had in Taiwan. Don't waste your time go to traditional Taiwan...
