GB Brewery Restaurant –Taipei NanXi Store — Restaurant in Zhongshan District

We came to GBA Brewery and Restaurant on our first day into Taipei. This is an excellent place for Americans or those looking to dine at an American style brew pub. They had English menus and our server spoke English. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. I did not use the restroom, but it was a building restroom shared with other businesses and not one within the restaurant.

I ordered the Buddha bowl as I wanted something a little smaller, lighter and with veggies. It was awesome, all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The fried kale was crisp and perfectly salted, delicious. The overall portion was large and filing.

Our lunch meal came with a soup or dessert. We opted for the dessert and were served a yummy piece of ice cream cake after the meal. It was quite welcome on a hot Taipei afternoon!

We were a touch confused by the beer menu. It didn't clearly lay out which beers were available, nor did it say the names of the beers. There were general categories, like malty, hoppy, fruity and examples of beers that fit into each category. Only the bolded examples were available. Other types of beers were mentioned but not available. We were bummed when we couldn't get the New England IPA. We tried the hefeweizen and were surprised with how it was so we got a couple of those instead of the IPAs. They had us sample their summer beer, but we both agreed the hefe was better.

I was aware they closed at 9:30 and was being mindful of the employees and eating fast, but with literally still half of my burger in one hand, and a napkin cleaning my face in the other, one employee asked me if it was OK for me to pay right now or if I will wait? I signaled to her that I would wait (because I was clearly chewing). One minute later, she came back and this time she said that I had to pay NOW, I told her, still eating, that when I was done I would, but she pressured me this time and I had no other choice than to put my burger down and clean my hands to pay. I know its hard to work in service and get people to leave as soon as you close, but there are ways to accomplish this, like asking them to cancel the bill as soon as they order. I was not expecting to come to a "nice" restaurant like this and leave with a bad experience but...

So other paying customers are not worth as much to GB? Can't use the smoking area just because someone else reserve the space? So my money is not worth as much? Cancel all my order and went to one of many of selections of restaurant around here. Glad I am won't be working near here anymore in the future. Won't be coming back or even think about hosting events here ever again. Oh BTW their member card sucks! Always have to bring card or no discount. Already carry too many cards don't need one more.
