I am a vegetarian and ate at many vegetarian places in Taiwan. This is by far the best tasting vegetarian food I tasted and with the best value. The place itself is homely and very old Chinese style. Books are available for reading. We were entertained by a little girl roller blading up and down between tables. It is in a small alley so we walked quite a bit to reach it from our hotel. This is a lovely vegetarian restaurant off the beaten path in Taipei that is worth a visit. As it's not far from my hotel I went here for an early lunch on a weekday and ordered the vegetarian chicken and the mushroom soup. They went very nicely together and were both delicious, but probably a bit too much food for one person (although I still ate it all!!). Shijie has an old school vibe that is fast vanishing in many parts of the vegetarian world. Service was prompt and friendly. Our group liked the meal, of particular mention were the clear noodle soup, sweet and sour king oyster mushrooms, asparagus with lily bulb. Taste was homely and perfect for those looking for simple vegetarian cooking that brings out the natural flavour of the food.
