Yang Shin is a vegetarian restaurant with a variety of dim sum and Taiwanese bites to choose from, all with a hefty price and decent view.
As a vegan, I as excited to try out some of the dim sum items. The menu doesn't specifically say "vegan," and instead has items listing whether it contains eggs or dairy.
I definitely went overboard and ordered their Braised Stinky Tofu, Peking Duck (made from oyster mushrooms), Cha Shu Rice Roll, Xiao Long Bao with Omni Pork, Shu Mai and Mushroom Dumplings. It doesn't sound like a lot of food but it ended up being massive portions for the first two.
I really enjoyed the stinky tofu and peking duck. Both were the standouts. I haven't had oyster mushrooms be so tender for peking duck usage, but I approved of everything. The tofu was also some of the best and its spicy, szechuan style goodness made it perfect for a cold evening.
While my meal was pretty good, my biggest con was the service and price of everything. As others have mentioned, this place is pricy! Everything was over 150 NTD as a baseline and a majority of them are in the 300-400 range. I got a little carried away and ended up paying nearly 1400 for my six dishes. It was good food, but very expensive.
The service was also quite slow at times especially during dinner rush. I had to head back to the airport so I asked if I could cancel my two last dim sum orders, and they claimed that it was already 'being prepared' and couldn't be canceled. Ate them on the plane instead but it was frustrating waiting so long.
Overall, I'm happy I got to experience some great food but at a cost. Next time I'll have to find a more local, less bougie vegan friendly spot to try in this...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic. Only in Taipei for a few days and I’m so glad I made the effort to come here. It wasn’t what I expected really but that’s not to say it didn’t exceed my expectations.
When I walked in, the atmosphere felt distinctly Hong Kong-esque which I loved and one look at the menu indicated a strong Cantonese influence.
The menu is vast, but they do provide a condensed menu which contains the dishes that they recommend and are most popular. These are mostly dim sum dishes. There are many large dishes to choose from as well.
I found it super difficult to make up my mind but eventually chose 5 dishes to myself which was probably a lot but I’ll probably only come here once!
If you’re not alone, without a doubt try the deep fried pumpkin with the salted egg yolk. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten.
The pastry with shredded turnips is heavenly and they melt in the mouth so don’t miss these either.
I could take or leave the stir fried string beans and mushrooms if I’m completely honest.
The Xiao long bao was really tasty and worth getting if you’re vegetarian because you’ll be hard pushed to find vegetarian Xiao long bao anywhere else.
If you have room for a dessert, well done. If you don’t, then you should try and make some immediately because you cannot leave without trying the runny custard steamed buns. These are heavenly. The custard is hot, buttery and super sweet; these buns are heavenly.
The price is a bit on the expensive side, saying that I did eat enough for two people so it definitely depends on what you order. Regardless, the food...

Initially, I wouldn't have known about the restaurant without the LED poster below, but upon arrival, I discovered an extensive menu featuring starters, main courses, dim sum, desserts, and separate hot and cold drink options. Notably, Yang Shin transparently discloses ingredients used in cooking, such as egg, milk, honey, and peanuts.
Their house rule, prohibiting pets except guide dogs, showcases thoughtfulness. The meal we ordered exceeded expectations - each dish delightfully flavorful. Standouts included:
Pine Nut & Vegetable Cheese Roll, Three Lion's Mane Mushroom, Tender Tofu with Pumpkin Sauce, Sauteed Burdock Root in Rice Topped with Eight Treasures, and dim sum options like Vegetarian Beef & Japanese Yam Balls and Almond & Chinese Yam Roll. Desserts, Black Sesame Soup and Tofu Pudding & Sugar Dessert Soup, were equally impressive.
Overall, Yang Shin Vegetarian Restaurant offers exceptional quality, taste, and value for money. Prices are reasonable, making it an ideal dining destination.
I highly recommend this restaurant for its outstanding cuisine and thoughtful considerations. Yang Shin is a must-visit for vegetarians, foodies, and anyone seeking delicious, affordable...
