I come back to visit family in taiwan every year and finding a temporary gym during my stay is always a struggle.
Most gyms require a minimum year long contract and don't offer any guest or temporary option. I've typically had to get by with world gyms 2 weeks trials or go to soulfit (another pay by minute gym).
Luckily this year I was recommended to check out Morefit and have to say its been the best experience so far.
The gym is easy to get to and just outside of exit 6 of songjiang nanjing. You scan a QR code on entry and exit to pay. Theres free lockers to put your stuff as well as lockers to take a shower after your workout.
The best thing about this gym is prob the amount of racks they have for squats/bench/deadlift. Theres also a bunch of machines mostly for larger muscle groups (likely have to do weights or cable for arms etc).
There are 5 benches for their free weight area which for the size of the gym is quite a lot. But I would say that has been the area where I have to wait the longest to get a spot.
I also got a personal training session this time with Rick. I typically don't get get PT but was happy to have done it this trip. There was a little bit of a language barrier but got my squat form adjusted (looking the before and after videos was eye opening) as well as a few movements to improve flexibility and form to work on as well. I highly recommend getting a PT session with Rick or any of their Personal trainers ( saw alot of them on the floor whenever I went)
Only caveat is that the Morefit app is all in chinese and you need a taiwanese phone number in order...
Read moreThis is the best library in Taipei based on how quiet they want their patrons to be 😂. I am always very conscious not to drop my weights (free weights and machines) no matter which gym I go to. On this one occasion I was using the seated machine rows at a light 30kgs, and on the last set I lent forward and released the handle as not to injure myself from the momentum of the returning mechanism. This made a small bang, as all machines do, and the receptionist sprints towards me and tells me to be quiet. Meanwhile the rest of the gym has sounds of people dismounting from the squat rack and cable machines. These guys have a real problem with any amount of noise from non members and foreigners apparently. There was another reviewer who reviewed these guys on YouTube and said the same thing, so AVOID if you don't want to be called out for breathing or any amount of noise.
Also if you're after a day pass be prepared to get the full gwailo experience, they'll take your money but won't show you how to use the lockers and won't give you a tour of the facilities whatsoever. It's pay up, get in...
Read moreMore Fit in Taipei is a great gym for travelers looking to get in a solid workout, was a 5 minutes walk from our hotel. The range of equipments are decent and well-maintained, and the space is clean and functional. I paid $180 TWD for a day pass since I could not use the pay-per-minute app without a local Taiwan number but still very fair for what you get.
Suggest you go during non-peak hours, I went before 8am and never had any issues with getting the equipment I was after.
Overall, the facilities are clean, with showers and toilets that are well-kept. Lockers with number locks are available if you need secure storage. There’s also a dedicated stretch zone, which was a nice touch for warming up or winding down.
The staff are friendly and attentive where they even keep an eye on noise levels and will politely offer extra padding if they feel you’re being too loud with...
