Cocktails & Dreams speakeasy bar — Restaurant in Dar es-Salaam

I’ve been a regular at cocktail and dreams for a while, but after what happened recently, I don’t feel safe or respected there anymore.

One night, I noticed my bill was way higher than usual. I simply asked the staff why — a normal question any customer would ask. Instead of getting an explanation, the manager told me the bill had already been paid. I was confused because I came alone and hadn’t paid it yet, so I asked, “Who paid my bill?”

Instead of answering, the manager got defensive and called security to remove me from the bar — without giving me any explanation. I was shocked and embarrassed. I left quietly and later filed a complaint, thinking someone might follow up or at least acknowledge how I was treated.

But the next time I went back, the bartender told me I couldn’t be served. No reason. No apology. Just refused service — after being a loyal customer and after trying to advocate for myself respectfully.

To be treated like this, especially as a Black woman, made me feel humiliated and discriminated against. It’s painful when a place you’ve supported makes you feel like you don’t belong

I’m sharing this because people deserve to know how this business treats its customers — and because I hope they reflect on how they handle situations like this in the future. No one should be removed, silenced, or shut out for simply asking a question or standing up...

I love going to Cocktails and Dreams for their food and drinks selection in a very cozy environment. Food is super yummy and always well presented.
