Excellent authentic Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices! I was in Dar from Jan 2006 to June 2011 and Swaad became one of my favorite places to eat out. Try the boneless Chicken 65 or Dry Fry Prawns as a starter -- ask for spicy or mild depending on your taste. (Note: most of their dishes are quite large -- even their starters. If hungry avoid Lamb Rogan Josh -- it is tasty but there is hardly much meat in it). "Meen Pollichathu" is an excellent marinated fish cooked in Banana leaves -- it's yummy! Unlike some other restaurants, most of Swaad's dishes are rather large -- typically for 4 people I would order 3 main dishes and one Chicken 65 as a starter (plus naan bread or rice). Also important to note they serve alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine -- some places in Dar do not serve any alcohol -- ask before booking to be safe. It is a clean, open-air restaurant with overhead fans -- at night wear long trousers, long sleeve shirts and mosquito repellent. Mosquitoes are not a problem most of the time but can be pesky soon after the rains. Make sure that as soon as you sit down you ask them to put some mosquito coils under/beside your table.
