This was supposed to be the restaurant that We had decided We were going to have Our lunch at, there are only 2 restaurants on the beach on the left, others are even more expensive and inside big resorts and 'Mangis's is at quite a prime spot..We had Our Breakfast a while ago and were headed on the left side from 'Z' Hotel on Nungwi beach, but it started raining suddenly, and this is exactly where We had reached, so We had a few drinks, and once it stopped raining, We thought of proceeding to Our previous plans, of enjoying some beach time, the waiter seemed annoyed that We were leaving without eating, so We informed Him that We just ate and We intend to come for lunch anyways, We left very little tip..so as intended, We returned back, and some people did recommend this place for swahili food, so We sat outside for drinks and it started drizzling again, so We moved inside, by the way, the Tequila Sunrise had no Alcohol in it 😒, so We thought of trying some dishes 1st, We ordered fried Calamari and Beef Sambusa, which was super expensive 15000 tnzn shillings, otherwise its 8000 at all the other restaurants, when the food arrived, the portions were extremely small compared to the western dishes on the other tables, it's surprising, they should be more generous with the local dishes I think 🤔, the Sambusa was horrible 😒, We ordered a grilled Octopus n Avo salad, coz We realised thier Swahili dishes might not be good at all after eating the disappointing Sambusa..once We were done We asked Miseyeki Sarun, the same guy who served Us both the times, for the cheque, and He got it for Us, We need change, so We kept a big Bill, He said Thank U, and never returned with Our 12 USD $ of remaining change, and We usually tip very generously later after Our change is returned, so beware, if U are being served by the same guy..this is the 1st time such a thing has happened to Us, We woved to never come back here again, all of the other places on Nungwi beach are amazing otherwise except for 'MANGI'S Beach Bar n Restaurant', it's a big...
Read moreResponse to the owner's answer: I don't see any reason why not to compare your place with other similar places in the area. On the contrary, objective reviews are always relative to the situation in the area, so comparison is key. But thank you for your answer. With such answers you reveal your unprofessionalism and strange sense of hospitality to other people.
Update: Unfortunately, this place, which was one of our favorites a few years ago, has become nothing more than a tourist trap with high prices and poor quality drinks and food. 10 thousand shillings for a small plate of tasteless, oily fries with nothing else? Really? This is simply a rip-off, nothing more. I am lowering my rating to one star and I am sorry I cannot give them less because places like this ruin everything that attracted people to Zanzibar. And they will soon pay a high price for their greed.
Just an ordinary tourist trap. Low quality drinks and food at very high prices. If you want to enjoy local food, you can find it literally ten times cheaper just a few hundred steps away. And if you want something more "exclusive" they are right next to Z hotel, which is quite expensive, but you can eat there for about the same price and the quality of food at Z Hotel is on a completely different level. As for the drinks, it's hard to get anything of lower quality here for that crazy price. And if you do decide to have a few drinks there, count them properly, because you may be very surprised at the end. It used to be a better place but since the crazy "development" in Nungwi started and some other businesses on the beach were destroyed, they have taken advantage of the situation and become very greedy and don't even care about old, local, returning customers, let alone tourists. So my advice is to avoid this place or at least be careful. Despite the destruction, there are still plenty of better places here to...
Read moreI’ve been going to Mangi’s since 2021, spent more than 7 million shillings there overtime. I’m a Tanzanian Citizen who grew up abroad, and lived in both Europe and the US. I have been to many 5 star resorts worldwide, and more but… Recently This was the first time, I was refused at a restaurant for being black and a Tanzanian. The owner walked up to me and tried to have me arrested for being at that restaurant which was my favourite hangout spot on the beach. Friends had told me before about this but I brushed it off, till it happened to me. If you have local friends or are dating a local avoid this place, they will be looked down upon and treated like less. Black On Black Racism exists in this place, it was the first time my fellow black man was racist towards me. I know most of you reading this will be white and won’t care, but I hope it can help others like me.
Edit After Response: Perfect I was waiting for you to say that, so tell me what about Ford? The security at cocobello? He doesn’t smoke weed or anything at all, why did you cause him? What about when your employees hurt little Camilla and her mum and dad were absolutely furious? Tell me does the 5 year old smoke weed too? Haha you thought you did something there huh? Funny because white people still smoke in Mangi’s I see them everyday doing it. So stop it colonialism has ruined that old man’s mind he truly believes white people are better than his own, go play with people who don’t have an education. I know discrimination...
