The worst dining experience in a long time. We have been travelling through Africa for the last few weeks with nothing but pleasant and wonderful food and hospitality so this evening was extremely unexpected and disappointing.
We were seated in which we ordered our drinks and were rushed into ordering our food before we had barely sat down. When our food came the portions were very small and it took us three times and two different staff members to ask for a side plate. We also had asked for chilli oil at the start of the meal and this was brought to our table when we were practically finished eating after having to ask twice. (the restaurant was in no way busy)
Our plates were taken away from us while there was still food on them and when I explained I wasn't completely finished he replied "you can eat with your hands". (in regards to a pizza)
We were absolutely disgusted with the service at this stage so we proceeded straight to the till to pay to avoid any further dealings with the waiting staff.
As we were paying it was quite obvious we were not pleased but the manager seemed to busy enjoying his cigarette to even ask us how the meal was and quite frankly seemed unbothered.
On a side note - As we waited we noticed there was a large spider above the table. We asked staff if it is possible to remove this or move table. We received a shrug of the shoulders and the waiter proceeded to another table completely ignoring what we had just said.
We would 100% advise to stay away from this restaurant. It is a rip off for tourists and quite an...
Read moreI had a margerita pizza, coffee and cheesecake.
The pizza was ok, not amazing (no basil and the crust wasn’t firm enough for my liking) but satisfying. The coffee was good and gave me a coffee jolt which I was seeking. The passion cheesecake was probably the best; nice flavours and textures.
I found the service to be terrible. I had to wait 20 minutes to get a menu with a half empty restaurant. I even asked the owner for a menu as he was setting my table (what need do I have of knife and fork if I can’t get as far as ordering food); the promised menu never materialised and I had to chase again. I had to wait about her 15 minutes to order (although they did come by for my order within 30 seconds of receiving the menu). When I did put in my order the pizza came almost as quickly as a bottle of water. Nice, but an odd experience. Getting the bill was a similar experience of trying to get someone’s attention.
I would also note that they have the highest credit card fees of anywhere I’ve experienced, full-stop. Supposedly they don’t charge a credit card fee; but they charge in US Dollars using such a ludicrous exchange rate that it equates to a greater than 10% fee. I felt gouged and unhappy about the entire experience.
This is probably your only option for Italian in this area, but better Italian food can be found in Stone Town for the same price. I’ve found that every restaurant serves seafood (naturally given the location), that they cook it in the same style and it all tastes pretty amazing (if you skip the fries) so there are a lot of...
Read moreI visited this restaurant a few days ago and was captivated by the incredible view and the lively atmosphere, thanks to a great DJ. The location is fantastic, and the waitstaff were kind and the food was oke, nothing special.
However, I couldn't help but notice the unfriendly demeanor of the woman behind the counter, who seemed to be the manager or owner. From the moment I walked in, there was no smile or warm greeting, and even when paying the bill, there was no acknowledgment. I left feeling uncomfortable, wondering if my appearance as a woman of color had anything to do with it. It was an unsettling vibe that felt out of place in such a beautiful setting.
For such a beautiful setting, it was unexpected to be greeted with such a lack of warmth. It left me wondering why someone who works in such a lovely place would seem so unhappy. While the food was oke, and the view and music were lovely, the overall experience was overshadowed by this lack of hospitality. I even regretted leaving a tip, hoping it at least went to the hardworking waiters who deserved it. A welcoming smile and a little friendliness can truly make all the difference in how guests feel about their visit 😊
I give this place 3 stars and would recommend it primarily for the ambiance and the friendly waitstaff, but I hope the management can bring a bit more warmth to their customer service.
Tip for the lady in behind the counter: a smile goes a long way
“A smile is the universal welcome.”...
