I've been struggling with how to put our experience forward and ensure it's believable because the whole thing is so surreal and incredible. The solution is simple: read through other terrible reviews for this place on TripAdvisor, you will see the pattern of them evicting guests on a regular basis, seemingly to entertain their egos.
We've travelled to hundreds of cities across all continents, but never witnessed anything like that, and still can't believe what had happened: just find a video on YouTube called Langi Langi receptionist - it's worth a thousand words.
There are not too many cheap hotels in Nungwi, and a lot of tourists who are never going back to Zanzibar. That made Owners and staff of this mediocre hostel see you as a walking wallet and they won't miss an opportunity to abuse you, at least verbally - although we were worried the staff may engage into physical violence at one point.
The arrogance of these people, profiteering from a prime location, is incredible. Please read on and vote with your wallet: this might help Zanzibar to be a better and more hospitable place.
The incident was caused by an owner (or their relative) who demanded to re-park our car "properly", although it has just been parked under instructions of their security guard. When we tried to explain this to him, he shouted that if we don't move the car in 5 minutes it will be "pushed out". All this happened whilst we were trying to enjoy their "beach" (shallow puddle infested with annoying beach boys).
I tried reporting this situation to reception, but the man there was indifferent and unapologetic (in a hindsight, there was little hope, as it seems we were complaining about the owner of the place).
The receptionist suggested I should do as "the man" told, and immediately. We didn't appreciate their attitude and refused to move without an apology. To that they literally told us to "get out of their hostel in 2 minutes ".
We booked a room via someone called Sajid Firoz Shameja, based in Dubai. He is very quick to take the money, but our attempts to contact him regarding this experience have been...
Read moreWe had a great honeymoon stay at Langi Langi. We booked a room with seaview and it was amazing, like living in a instagram post of the maldives. Spacious rooms, good aircondition.
The owner of the hotel (mr. Rasta? Didn't get his firstname) is working himself at the hotel serving breakfast and dinner to the guests. He's very friendly and made our stay even better here at Langi Langi.
The pool area is great, we spent many days here as it was quiet and not many guests around. It gets quite hot during the day and the pool was a great way to cool down.
The area itself is also good, close to popular restaurants like Mama Mia and MJ Cafe. We can recommend MJ Cafe for lunch and dinner, they have almost half the price of most restaurants and serve big portions of great tasting food. Even locals come to eat there. Walking distance to shops, local areas, turtle aquarium and other activities.
There are some points for improvement: Wifi is BAD, don't expect to be able to stream videoes or have voice chats with family or friends at home. At times during the day you get disconnected every 5 minutes and are almost unable to browse and websites. Same with 4G mobile network, at least for the Airtel network. But I guess it's a great opportunity to get rid of that phone addiction? Breakfast is good, you can order omelets, pancakes and bruchetta from your table and get bread, coffee, milk, juice etc yourself. They also serve you fruits. I wish there was more selection of food, like hot dishes. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel. At times when there were many guests at the hotel, guests went early to reserve sunbeds. At times we were unable to get any sunbeds because other guests placed their towels on them, but no one used them for hours.. how selfish. I hope Langi staff will take some action to solve this.
We had a great stay here and will warmly recommend Langi Langi for people visiting Nungwi. Good value for the money and the sea view (with awesome sunsets btw) is...
Read moreAmazing place, very friendly management and staff, located directly at the beach, amazing view. ||We are pleased to have been guests at Rasta's place, an amazing human being and manager and thankful to have met such friendly staff and experienced such an amazing place. ||Very clean. Showers, toilet, water, always working, never interrupted or stuck. |Excellent restaurant (public, not only hotel guests) for lunch or dinner. From Currys to Pizza and Zanzibari (very hot!) dishes, everything made freshly and very kind waiters. ||Do not ecpect meat, such as beef or lamb or any else in Zanzibar, but excellent fish, seafood and chicken. Reason therefore is the import of meet from mainland, that mostly is not reliable. ||We loved everything from breakfast (if you expect continental breakfast in Zanzibar, then may prefer a different destination, not Zanzibar) Breakfast, contains from choice of eggs (omeletts, boiled, fried, pancakes and others) you order and itvwill be prepared freshly, variety of fruits, toastbred, soup, yoghurt, flakes, butter, milk, jam, coffee, tea, toppings for the pancakes and water. ||Always carry cash in Zanzibar, paying with cards is not really common. Better change into tansanian schilling, than paying with US Dollars. ||Beach boys are kind, even tough they may ask several times for selling things. Just smile asnd say friendly, if needed several times, 'Asante', which means.thank you in Swaheli. Not comperable with places like Egypt, Mainland Spain, Gran Ganaria, Turkey, where the beach boys are much more demanding and approaching to you.||For us, every time again...
