The N&J Cafe in Nungwy was a better restaurant two years ago, it is still an ok place to eat. This time, we stayed almost two months. We came there every day for lunch, dinner.
Two years ago, The plates were huge, now they're gone replaced by smaller ones, smaller portions.... Big bucks for them. An afordable place, because the view is located next the a huge parking full of taxis, so no ocean or garden view... Be careful of the fresh juices, they cut them with non drinkable water, even if you ask them not to, THEY DON'T CARE ! Never ask for ice either ( HUGE RISK OF HORRIBLE DIARRHEA ) They answer is : always yes, but the don't care, they add non drinkable water !! Less fruits = more money for them. SMH.... Greediness... BE CAREFUL: AVOID A WAITRESSE WHO WORKS THEIR, HER NAME IS "GIFTE" She is a sneaky greedy liar, she will tell you no salad comes with the menu, which is a huge lie, because if you look closely at the menu, it says " the dish comes with rice or salade". We said : " last time we came here, we were used to have things done like this or like that". It wasn't an issue at all back then ! She always lies with a straight face, saying : " We don't do that anymore ! " LIAR !!! She pushes you to order more and more.... Refuses the salad who comes with the menu, she added the mango salad that we had to pay fully ! She pushed us to order more... When we didn't feel eating much, she clearly shows an upset face ! She's very calm, composed, with very small sneaky eyes.. They get a commission on orders, that's why she wants you to order big ...
I often asked her to have extra tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers.... I told her : " I will pay for the extra" Still : Nope ! Our last week, she wasn't working, she was sick, we got two others sweet waitresses, they were so nice and super honest, everything we asked, if they could do it, they will bring it to you with a huge smile. Tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers.. And so on... All the things we asked and didn't get by that greedy waitress, the snake named: "GIFTE " suddenly became miraculously available. Hmmm... Avoid thee beef, it's boiled tasteless and hard as a rock.. I have tried different dishes, I was always disappointed... I recommend the grilled chicken, that was my favorite dish with french fries, spinach salad with tomatoes and fresh juices... I recommend also the vanilla milkshake, it's delicious ! 😋
For your own sake : AVOID GIFTE , THE NASTY...
Read moreThis could have been our favorite spot if it hadn't disappointed us multiple times. During our first two visits, the portions were generous and the food was good, despite the beef being a bit tough. We appreciated the large servings of fries which left us satisfied. However, our last two visits were very disappointing. The portions were significantly smaller, with half the usual fries and beef that was mostly bone. We left feeling hungry.
Determined to give the restaurant another chance, we visited again and ordered different dishes: fried calamari rings and a beef wrap. Unfortunately, they brought us the wrong order and the food was disappointing once more. The calamari portion was tiny - just four small rings with fries - definitely not worth the price. The beef wrap was oily, with little meat.
If the restaurant had maintained the quality of our first visits, we would be regulars. Sadly, as more tourists come, the quality has...

Went here looking for a simple meal that could be customized to my dietary preferences. The team delivered with an entree that included a few modifications but still tasted delicious and was properly seasoned! A nice change in pace after a horrible lunch at Badolina Tokyo where I asked them not to add soy sauce and chili oil and well not only was it flavorless, it had a dead bug in it!
Big bonus is you can pay by credit card, and at least as of now they don’t charge any additional surcharges! A nice surprise.
Like any restaurant In Zanzibar, the service is “slow” compared to western standards, but compared to other places I have dined in Zanzibar, this was relatively fast!
If something on the menu looks good, probably my worth stopping by given their very...
