Are you looking to expand your culinary foodie expertise and Palette... well I have to say this restaurant will do just that! As soon as I walked through the doors I was greeted with a friendly smile, great Bosnian music, and an amazing Savory delicious scent of homemade Bosnian cooking. When I asked about the soup of the day... I was offered a sample and I know why... Because once u taste it... You will get one... The soup today is called "Tarhana" savory pasta soup with a savory and delicate tomato based broth... Very silky with excellent seasoning balanced in a very perfect way.... in one word Deliciosa! Soon after, I quickly was introduced to the menu with beautiful descriptions of every dish... you can tell the chef has a lot of love for the food he creates and serves. The beef goulash (aka Bosnian beef stew) was a perfect combitanion of spices and tender pieces of beef, in a very delicate and savory smoky sauce. The only thing I would of like was more beef as my plate only brought 3 little pieces (took one star for that). It was served on a bed of half homemade mash potatoes and half rice as I wanted to try both. The mash potatoes were super creamy and soft a sour ream taste to it. The rice was very basic, it had a smoky peperly flavor. However, The BREAD.... WOW! IT IS HARD TO DESCRIBE... it has been grilled over seasoned creamy butter... AMAZING texture crispy on the outside and creamy soft in the inside... Wow.... So the pickle beets were just OK, not that impressed by them but truly one step above any other local restaurant would offer you. The bosnian coffee was served just beautifully in a very elegant traditional bosnian way.... LOVED THE PRESENTATION!!!! It made me feel the Bosnian love for coffee. Now remember the Bosnian coffee is very cloudy very savory... Think of the words unrefined or raw... Is quite aromantic smoky and complex even though slightly bitter if you give it a moment's to settle in it is a perfect combination of the savory smokey very deep in flavor and complexity.... you must try it at least once in your life... very different than your typical cup of coffee here in the states... The coffee is served with a little shortcake cookie alled LOKUN... Which is perfect partner to the coffee...buttery and Crumbly...yummm... The baklava is homemade by Delano... And do to this and the AMAZINGLY PERFECT service I received by the staff Delano in the kitchen and my server Sanel. I will increase MY REVIEW TO 5 STARS!!! IM SO GLAD I came in!...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about the people and the service here. Very friendly. Helpful at explaining the menu and making suggestions. I tried the Cevapi. It is made fresh in house every day. Think of seasoned beef sausage without any casing. Very yummy. Comes with two different house made sauces. One was similar to sour cream, the other was a sweet and spicy sauce. I liked both, but I really liked combining them. The dish comes with a warm housemade bread. It is similar to naan, although maybe a bit oilier. It is perfect to tear into pieces and combine with the rest of the dish. There is also raw onion on the side, which I did not have much use for. To drink I tried a Serbian beer called Jelen. It was a pretty good lager and paired well with the meat. Other dishes are also made from scratch. There seems to be a real sense of pride in making authentic food, which I appreciate very much about this place. My only wish would be to get some sort of vegetable or authentic side dish. The meal was a little heavy and could use something besides the sauce to cut the meat and bread....
Read moreWow, what a hidden gem in East Ridge! For the adventurous diner, Tata's Grill is an authentic Bosnian restaurant (I'm not Bosnian so I'm taking their word for it!). My wife and couldn't decide what to get, nor did the menu items look even remotely understandable, so we got the combo grill platter (can't remember the name) as it had a portion of all their meat offerings plus saladx2 and appetizer as part of this combo special. It serves 3-4 and that's true as we have plenty for lunch tomorrow.
All the various meats and chicken and grilled veggies were amazing. And the soft grilled bread that we sometimes used to wrap the meat to make a sandwich was cool.
Though we had plenty to eat, we had to try the baklava for dessert. OMG, that's the best ever and made in-house from scratch. This is a MUST. As we checked out, we saw their various house-made cakes. Awesome again. The owners were very friendly too.
A definite place to eat and to get away from the usual southern fare we eat...
