Always Thaifood — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

Worst Thai food we have ever had. We ordered a number of dishes focusing on sea food. Prawn cakes more flour than shrimp. Tom Yum fish and chili seafood fried rice both advertised as spicy but came completely bland. The seafood and fish in every dish far from fresh. Struggled to find our tiny portion of Kale on the huge banana leaf it came on.

Apart from one gentleman who provided us service with a friendly and helpful manner, all other staff were unfriendly and surly. One lady just took our food away without even asking us whether we finished.

Perhaps a good thing given the food quality and because we were also concerned about the hygiene of the place. The floor is covered by loose stone chippings. While this may look rustic, in practice there is no way the floor can be deep cleaned. Despite this staff just wiped food crumbs from the table onto the loose floor when clearing other tables.

This place scrapes one star for the gentleman who took our orders (thank you🙏), the old style Thai holiday decor and the very cold beer (although most expensive beer in the area)

If you’re in Chiang Mai, “Always Thai Food” is an absolute must-visit! From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming.

The food was a highlight: • Kao Soi Chicken was phenomenal, with rich, flavorful broth and perfectly tender chicken. • Papaya Salad was fresh, vibrant, and balanced—not overly spicy, which made it enjoyable for everyone at the table. • Cashew Chicken was simply delicious—savory, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor.

Their cocktails deserve a special mention. The Strawberry Mojitos were refreshing and beautifully balanced, while the Mango Sticky Rice Cocktail was creative, fun, and absolutely delightful—a unique spin on the classic dessert!

We also loved the fun atmosphere—playing Connect 4 while waiting for our food added a playful touch to the experience and made it so memorable.
