Really friendly staff, excellent selection and quality of food, cheap prices and amazing tasty dishes (their sweet chilli sauce was one of the best I've had in Chiang Mai). Will certainly be visiting again. It was quite busy but the food is served so quickly that the table turnover is fast so you won't be waiting long if at all...we ordered 2 fish with rice dishes, vegetable spring rolls and 2 pineapple smoothies for 270B... Bargain!
UPDATE 23.12.18: We've been back to Aroy Dee a couple of times since my original review and it has been great, but last night was unfortunately a different story... Everything seemed a little chaotic, one thing I noticed which was different from the other times we've been was that the lady with the glasses was not there (the boss?) She was present just as we were leaving however. So it all started with a young waiter coming over to our table and taking our order without a pen and paper we order and he hurriedly runs to write it all down, I'm already thinking to myself that something is going to be forgotten, but brush it off, these guys do this for a living so perhaps he always takes orders in this manner. Then we get our spring rolls, which are cold, these have always been freshly cooked previously and were delicious, but today not so much. We also ordered the fish I look over to the cooking station and see a plate full of pre-cooked fish sat also going cold, again this was always freshly cooked previously and again was delightful, usually lovely crispy batter and succulent flakey white fish inside, today however chewy old batter and cold white fish inside :(. The next dish we get is our vegetables, which were prepared by the chefs in the front kitchen so were fresh, hot and tasty (as usual) I then get my rice, GF gets her fish (cold as above) and rice dish but my fish dish was missed off the order, due to the way everything was served, there was a pretty lengthy wait between the vegetables and the rice etc, I just thought it was general disorganisation so waited, and waited, but when GF had finished her dish and I couldn't see mine even being started in the front kitchen I had to go over and ask where mine was. This was dealt with by an older gentleman who I suspect is management/owner too, he was very good, looked at the order slip and said it wasn't on the order, I explained that the waiter didn't take our order with a pen and paper and tried to remember it all but think this was lost in translation. The gentleman said not to worry as they had already started to prepare my fish dish, I could see the front kitchen busily preparing it so I thanked him and sat back down. Unfortunately as they were rushing to get it over to me it wasn't up to its usual standard, watery and unpleasant, that paired with the cold fish made it a pretty un-enjoyable experience. I paid the older gentleman who was very apologetic I tried to explain what had happened again but it was lost again in translation, I take full responsibility for the language barrier, my Thai is extremely limited, I'm in your country and don't really speak your language so can't complain as your English is considerably better than my Thai...
Overall it was a really frustrating night, as, like I said, we've been back a few times and when the lady with the glasses is there whipping everyone up making sure everything runs very smoothly, it's fantastic, everything freshly cooked and really flavoursome food. Tonight the standards slipped considerably, it's made me not want to rush back to eat there, which is frustrating because I really...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Aroy Dee, a Thai restaurant located in Thailand, and I must say, the experience was delightful.
First and foremost, the food at Aroy Dee is simply amazing. Every dish I tried was bursting with flavors, and it was evident that the ingredients were fresh and carefully selected. The restaurant's commitment to buying fresh ingredients daily truly shines through in the taste of their dishes.
The staff at Aroy Dee were friendly and welcoming. They made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. However, I did notice that on rare occasions, there was a slight mistake with my order. Nevertheless, their positive attitude and willingness to rectify any errors quickly overshadowed this minor hiccup.
The owner of the restaurant deserves a special mention as well. They were warm and welcoming, taking the time to greet each customer personally. Their presence added a personal touch to the dining experience and made me feel like a valued guest.
The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, with the kitchen located at the front of the shop. It was fascinating to see the skilled chefs at work, preparing each dish with precision. However, I should note that on warmer days, the lack of air conditioning made the shop a bit hot, which could be uncomfortable for some customers.
Overall, I highly recommend Aroy Dee for its amazing and tasty food. The friendly staff, welcoming owner, and lively atmosphere contribute to a memorable dining experience. Just be prepared for the occasional mistake on the order and the possibility of the shop getting a little warm. Despite these minor drawbacks, Aroy Dee remains a must-visit Thai restaurant for any food enthusiast.

Read moreTop 3 food rec: morning glory, pad see ew, fried rice (personally loved the Tom yum fried rice)
Highly recommend for a good hearty meal at a good price. I went here 3 times during my 4 day stay in chiang mai. Would’ve gone 4+ times if I hadn’t only found out about this place on day 2. It was a place that I could depend on for a good meal.
All foods I tried with my companion tasted good for sure (2 curries, 2 noodles, omelet, 2 fried rices, morning glory, etc etc). Can’t rly go terribly wrong! The chef seemed to especially pride himself on his stir frying technique! Told me it was one of the hardest cooking skills he had to master. And he indeed did master it- food definitely has the wok hay! So try the stir fry veggies, stir fried noodles (stuff like pad see ew), and fried rice dishes while you’re here. The Tom yum fried rice tasted unique and delicious.
Long review unrelated to food: The chef is an icon. Super friendly and funny guy who loves interacting with guests when the restaurant isn’t so busy (during peak hours there’s a considerable wait outside the place with chairs for folks to sit). Oh wait nvm, even when he’s busy with a pile of fire in wok he managed to say hi to me and my friends as we were walking by on the street lol. He asked me and my friends for a few fun phrases to address international tourists in various languages. He keeps a notebook with all his notes on how to say things from what I assume other customers. The guy loves to learn. Overall great and...
