This place is a true hidden gem! It's a tiny restaurant -- only four tables -- but the food is sensational. There's nothing on the menu you've ever had anywhere else, but wow is it delicious! Don't go here when you're in a hurry -- everything is cooked to order in their little kitchen (which shares the same space as the dining tables). -- but well worth a few extra minutes wait. The people are super nice, eager to please, and genuinely grateful for your compliments. My wife had the mango salad with crispy fish -- it was amazing, and only 70 baht! I had the pork with black pepper sauce, with rice and a clear soup on the side for 80 baht -- and loved every bite. This was our first visit but it won't be our last!
We went back to Baan Landai a couple of weeks later for dinner and it was again terrific. I had the tamarind fried chicken and my wife had the vegetarian stir-fried mushrooms, both with rice and salad. Everything was just great! The cuisine here is very creative, very unusual, and very easy to enjoy. And the prices are so low they're hard to believe.
On this visit we learned that all the vegies they serve are home grown in the their family's organic farm outside the city. The salad greens were just-picked super fresh!
Baan Landai is an extraordinary restaurant. It's a little out of the way, but well worth a little extra effort. The owners say it gets busy at lunchtime, but it was easy to get a table at dinnertime. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. You'll be...
Read moreSecond revisit to Baan Landai this trip to Chiangmai. We went here the first time before covid.
The shop remain the same, low profile but good quality, it's operated by a mature couple, they are very kind & well recommended on our dinner.
Watermelon with dried fish floss, a refreshing appetiter, mixture of palm suger & dried fish floss is made you keep eating.
Pork Ribs stew with ree wine is just very soft & easily fall off from the bone, taste mildly with thai herbs rather than red wine.
Fried Pumpkin & minced pork is sweet & savory, good to go with rice
Gaeng Ped with Chicken was a bit ordinary.
Overall the whole dinner was good, we came at around 7pm it's quite but eventually was full house, having guests from the neighborhood, locals & expats.
Thank you for a food dinner & wish you, uncle & aunt the best with...
Read moreA lot of the reviews and pictures are from a different Baan Landai, which is further south from here, towards the wall of Old City, so it seems some Google reviewers are confusing the two restaurants. The menu at this one is totally different. I showed photos from Google to the owner to ask which dish they were on the menu, and she pointed to a dish on the menu, but sure enough when they came out they were totally different dishes. I chose this restaurant because I wanted the stewed meat with onion and cinnamon stick I saw on Google, so I was a bit disappointed.
The food here tasted okay, but the portions were really tiny, and the price was above the average for Thai food in the area. We had to get a second dinner right after because we were...
