Review of the Gekko Garden Xmas day buffet for 450 Baht. Drinks are extra of course. I reserved a place for me and my friend and when we got there about 18:30 it was already very busy with a short queue for the food. We had to wait a few minutes for them to find us a table but as it was busy this was fine. We went for our food and waited only 4 or 5 minutes. There's a huge variety of meats especially and vegetables. We filled our plates and went back only to find we'd been moved tables which was disconcerting. We were moved to a table with 2 other chaps but they were nice people so it was ok. For after there's plenty of fruit and there was even homemade jaffa cakes (nice) and cheese and biscuits

Nice place. I went to try the Monday special of baguettes with various fillings. The price outside was 89 Baht. The price inside was 99 Baht (chips/fries are 20 Baht extra). Most of the specials seem to have gone up by 10 Baht. It would be nice to see the prices updated on the posters too. My order was processed quickly. I ordered a large Chang for 80 Baht (you can buy 3 for 199 Baht). The ham and cheese baguette arrived shortly with a free salad but also chips, which I hadn't ordered. I'm not sure if a mistake was made by me or them (but I'm sure I just asked for ham and cheese) or they were after an extra 20 Baht. The baguette was very good but there didn't seem to be any cheese whatsoever. The wifi was solid. There were plenty of ceiling fans to keep the...

We used to frequent this place many years ago and thought it was ok so this visit thought we’d stop in before heading to the night market (another mistake). The heavy bench seats are so far away from the table and unable to be moved closer. No fan anywhere near us and lots of bugs due to the overgrown garden setting.

The fruit shake I ordered was tasteless. The Thai dish was large and also virtually tasteless. They do not provide any of the usual condiments that should accompany Thai food so I couldn’t even attempt to add any flavour to my dish that was padded out with cabbage. They provide a bunch of various sauces (tomato etc) which I imagine is to cater for western tourists and expats (which is where most of these puzzling good reviews are from I imagine).

My dining partner ordered the fish and chips and it had way too much batter and was over cooked. Her cocktail surprisingly tasted of alcohol but no sweetness whatsoever.

They were fast to take our dishes away like they needed the table (they didn’t) but never came and asked if we needed anything else or the bill. When we decide to leave we had to search out someone to get us the bill. Then they stood right there waiting for the money. All very weird as there are plenty of staff members sitting around.

Do not believe the good reviews you read here. If you want huge plates of average food then this place is for you. Otherwise there are a million better places in the old...

I'm a little ashamed to say that despite the fact that I've lived in Chiang Mai for 3 years I just discovered this restaurant today. Shame on me! Here's the deal: whether you're visiting Chiang Mai or living here, you will not need to visit any other restaurant your entire time while you're here. The Gecko Garden has it all! I would take a picture of the menu. But it has so many pages I don't think they would all fit in my review. First they have virtually every kind of American meal breakfast lunch and dinner available at unbelievable prices. But they also have a sizable amount of Thai dishes also available. In fact, the amount of Thai dishes available exceeds the number of Thai dishes that I typically see in Thai restaurants! They serve good breakfast all day. All kinds of Western breakfasts and Thai breakfasts. Hamburgers, big sandwiches, Italian food, pizza, and with a tip of the hat to Seinfeld, they actually serve the BIG SALAD! On Sunday they have a gigantic buffet from 6:00 p.m. to 9pm. The restaurant is centrally located in Chang Khlan very close to the Anusarn Night Market. Oh and did I mention that they have a bar that serves every kind of booze that one can imagine, at very popular prices. All set in a lovely outdoor garden setting. Don't waste any time and getting over there! You can eat all your meals here, forever, and never run out of Western and Thai options. Recommended. I'll be back....

Once you know what meals you like at Gekko Garden, they are surely some of the best cooked and cheapest meals in town. For me, the Gekko Burger special on a Tuesday is the best burger in town. Prices for food and drink are very low. It's normally pretty busy at meal times with a wide range of clientele. I like the idea of 'specials' every day of the week. The chairs and tables are substantial and hard - and the house cat may scratch you if you stroke it suddenly. It's semi-open air which is fine, and has many fans in operation. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Gekko Garden offers meals to go and a very good range of take-away meats, cheeses, etc. Highly recommended if you haven't already been there, which would be a surprise as it's been a stalwart in Chiang Mai for many years. October 2023 and I've just returned to Gekko Garden after a long layoff (unfortunately I had an awful meal there about 10 months ago) and it's good to report that their 'Burger Madness' meal is back to its best. A very delicious burger tonight, and some new staff were particularly friendly and efficient. They were duly well tipped.
