This is my first time staying at this hotel (I've stayed at their hotel in Bangkok and had positive experience), and wasn't quite sure what to expect, since there are mixed reviews on the internet.
The hotel is located along a main road and near to the Night Bazaar. There are lots of eating and shopping places within short walking distance.
The check-in process was smooth and fast. I found the staff at the reception counter friendly enough.
I booked a Deluxe Room, and requested for it to be on a higher floor and away from the elevator. They gave me one on the 7th floor, and in a section that was away from the main road. Turned out this was a good thing, because the room was relatively quiet! Since the hotel is located in a busy section of Chiang Mai, there are lots of open-air entertainment nearby, and most of them were actually quite noisy; and the entertainments continued till late at night, past midnight. Having a room away from the main road meant I was further away from all that noise. I could still hear them, but they were not loud enough to be a nuisance.
The room was very spacious, clean, well-maintained, and well-lit. The bed and pillow were comfortable enough. There were ample wardrobe space.
There wasn't any work desk in the room. There as a work-shelf along one side of the room, and the TV sat on it. There is enough space for my luggage and also for me to do some work on it, but the height of the shelf is lower than that of a desk, so it was a little uncomfortable doing work on it. It would have been nice if they had provided a regular-height desk in the room, because there was definitely enough space in the room for one.
The temperature control for the air-condition didn't seem to work: the room felt really cold even though I set the thermostat to 26 degrees (Celsius). In the middle of the night it got so cold that I had to switch the air-condition off.
The bathroom was clean, bright, and well-maintained. However, there seemed to be a design flaw: when I shower, water will flow out of the shower area into the other areas of the bathroom, making the floor wet and, subsequently, the floor mat soaked with water.
Wifi worked for the most part, though I found the speed inconsistent. The speed would frequently drop to a very slow rate and then pick back up again. This caused inconvenience especially when I was watching streamed movies.
The package that I booked did not include breakfast, because the price between a room with breakfast and one without was about US$20 (before tax). But I found out that the buffet breakfast only cost THB250 (less than US$8), which meant that I could still go for their buffet breakfast and still pay less than if I had booked a room that included breakfast!
Not having breakfast included in the package wasn't a problem because I could easily get breakfast nearby.
Overall, I was rather satisfied with my stay. It could have been better if not for those flaws I...
Read moreFound this hotel and I was not sure what to expect, but I have been pleasantly surprised by my stay here. I know this is a bit of an aphorism when discussing the kindness of the Thai people, but this hotel takes it to another level. For a 4-star hotel, you definitely receive 5-star service. From opening doors for you to the cleaning staff always smiling, yet to see a sour face.
One small but meaningful example. While I am here on a bit of a sojourn, I am still working and I needed to print off some documents to work on. In a typical hotel you would have to find the business center and go through the process of getting these items printed. Here I went to the front desk, asked them if they can print it.."no problem, sir please email it to this email address and we will print it right away." Bloody hell, everything should be that easy. In 5 minutes I am walking away with the documents. Nothing to sign, maybe there will be a charge, but even if there is it is perfectly okay.
I sit on the patio and work in the evenings as this is the time to communicate back home and I, truth be told, do have a drink or two - of course a Vodka Martini. Happy hour is from 5pm to 7pm and it is 2 for 1 so, not trying to be rude, I accept their gracious offer and over the evening I am working with a great glass, or two of a really delicious martini in front of me. The bartender is so friendly and always fills my nuts (keep it PG...LOL).
My room is not huge, but for a solo traveler it is everything I need. The bathrooms are great, good water pressure and everything is so clean. After a day of exploring, this place is my respite from the chaos of Thailand. Very grateful to have found this place and had an opportunity to stay here for a few days.
BTW, had an issue with my key and after trying getting my key replaced and heading up to my room twice, being a typical diva, not proud of it, I finally dropped my key on the reception desk and asked them to deal with it, while I sat on the patio...don't judge me. They were so generous, they dealt with the situation and once resolved they escorted me to my room and "taught" me how to open my door. Back to my comment, so kind...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Chiang Mai, and I was very fortunate to stay at Dusit Princess Chiang Mai. I traveled with two friends, and we each stayed in Deluxe rooms with amazing views. The rooms were well-equipped, clean, and comfortable. I often relaxed on the sofa or worked at the desk before bedtime.
Our housekeeping attendant, Punchaya, was wonderful—she checked daily if we wanted our rooms cleaned and always tidied up nicely, even organizing my MacBook power cable. The front desk staff were also very helpful. A young gentleman kindly offered several options for our airport transportation at checkout, and another lady expressed genuine happiness that we enjoyed our stay and assured us we would be welcome back.
We rented a car during our stay, and the car park staff was exceptionally kind and helpful. He guided me with parking and advised on the best routes for my two-day drive. His friendliness made a strong impression, and I will definitely rent from this hotel again because of him.
Scam Alert One important note for fellow travelers: if you plan to take tours, book only through the lady near the front desk. I took a car tour arranged outside the hotel and unfortunately was scammed by a woman in white who did not deliver what was promised. This is a cautionary reminder to avoid booking tours outside the hotel or on the streets.
Overall, Dusit Princess Chiang Mai offers a comfortable stay with excellent service and a convenient location, making it a great choice for your visit...
