Grill of Punjab: The Must-Visit Dosa Haven for Bollywood Legends in Chiang Mai
If legendary Bollywood icons—Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and yes, the guy with the goatee (Saif Ali Khan, for those keeping score)—were in Chiang Mai filming a grand musical segment, Grill of Punjab would undoubtedly be their sanctuary for the perfect dosa experience. Between takes, under the sultry beats of Asha Bhosle's Typewriter Song—the very tune that inspired my cat's name—they’d gather around for a bite that could make even a Bollywood dance number pause.
On my plate? The dosa, golden, crisp, and whispering of perfect preparation, sat majestically next to a vibrant bowl of sambar. Each bite felt like a celebration of South Indian tradition but with a surprise twist of Punjabi warmth. The coconut chutney and the punchy green chutney were superstars in their own right, like a Raj Kapoor-Nargis chemistry—each flavor perfectly complementing the other. I would dare say this dosa could rival any in Chennai, yet here it was, a hidden gem in Chiang Mai.
It's easy to imagine Saif, with his goatee meticulously groomed, nodding appreciatively while Madhuri flashed that famous smile of approval as the Typewriter Song played faintly in the background. Asha Bhosle herself would have graced this establishment had she been in town—her melodious legacy reflected in the harmony of spices that made this meal unforgettable.
Grill of Punjab isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a cinematic experience in taste, where the humble dosa reaches superstar status. For anyone craving food that sings as beautifully as Asha, and feels as legendary as the Bollywood greats, this place is the real deal. Even my cat would give it a...

I recently dined at The Grill of Punjab, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and rich aromas transported me straight to India.
Ambiance: The decor beautifully reflects Punjabi culture, with vibrant colors and traditional art.
Service: The staff at The Grill of Punjab were attentive and friendly, making sure we felt welcomed. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations based on our preferences.
Food: The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. We started with the Chicken Tikka, which was perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection, bursting with flavor. For the main course, I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and it was divine—rich, creamy, and accompanied by fluffy naan that was perfect for dipping.
We also tried the Paneer Butter Masala, which was a hit with my vegetarian friend. The blend of spices was spot on, and the paneer was incredibly fresh. Don’t skip the Biryani; it was aromatic and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice.
Dessert: We finished our meal with Gulab Jamun, and it was the perfect sweet ending—soft, syrupy, and utterly delicious.
Overall Experience: The Grill of Punjab offers a delightful culinary journey that captures the essence of Indian cuisine. The combination of authentic flavors, warm hospitality, and inviting atmosphere makes it a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and explore more...
Read moreFood was good but there was no option for customizeing sugar on the team and I think the biriyani portions are a bit smaller than in other places in Chiang mai, but proportional to the price. I think from the taste, made authentically with Indian or Indian trained chefs. No complaints although I didn't order something fancy, just biryani and palak paneer. The price is reasonable. Ambience is meh, but acceptable, we're here to eat not to stare at an art gallery. I liked the idols of the Lord Shiva, Phra Buddha, Lord Ganesha. It adds to the vibe. However, service was wanting. The local staff doesn't understand service etiquette. They took my food twice when I was on my phone. The second time the woman didn't even apologise, nor did the cashier who originally made the mistake, enquire about the food or give eye contact (maybe he was embarrassed after taking my food and feeling awkward) . Saw this another Thai staff do this in Bangkok as well, seems like asking the customer before taking the food isn't part of their culture? Either way, I was not sure if they are cleaning up fast or softly pushing me away to free the table.
Still, i might come back eventually if I'm in the area as the food was...
