We decided to visit Pizzeria Mazzie based on a recent great review from BK Mag.
The pizza and beverage program at Pizzeria Mazzie is excellent. The pizzas are unique and varied as well as containing high-quality ingredients. The drink list is a well-curated selection of red and white wines, as well as an assortment of craft beers you won’t find at other restaurants and even bars. The overall experience of Pizzeria Mazzie however, had a lot to be desired for.
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the chef, manager, and staff, and looking forward to experiencing what BK Magazine calls the “Best Pizza in Bangkok”. Looking at the many pictures and reviews on google, it seemed as if the chef/owner personally stood behind the bar each night and prepared your pizza.
To our disappointment, the chef/owner and manager both left the pizzeria within ten minutes of us arriving (we were the only guests in the venue when we arrived, albeit it was a Wednesday), and we were left with only the backup staff to take care of us with no representation from the people that actually run the place.
While the staff are professional and know what they are doing, and the chef that ended up preparing our pizza probably did it as good of a job as the head chef/owner would do himself, the atmosphere at Pizzeria Mazzie ended up severely lacking. After the departure of the owner, the staff decided to shut off the music, and began browsing for Netflix movies on the big TV screen in the open kitchen (picture attached).
After finally deciding on Men in Black III for their movie night, the entire front-of-house staff decided to watch the movie while standing in place around the register, while we enjoyed our pizza not five feet away at the counter. I thought a pizzeria run by “a crew of New Yorkers” was going to be more fun...
After spending over 2000 baht/60.00 USD for one pizza and a bottle of wine, I expected a bit more of an experience. Perhaps there is more action on the weekend, but well-reviewed and rather expensive restaurants like Pizzeria Mazzie should be able to deliver a solid experience on any night...
Read moreAs a pizza lover, I am always on the lookout for new and tasty pizzerias, so I was delighted to discover Pizzeria Mazzies—a charming pizzeria located in the Park Lane Mall in the Ekkamai area. Upon entering, the staff promptly welcomed me and guided me to an available seat before bringing over the menu. The menu is simple yet offers a diverse variety of dishes, including pasta, risottos, salads, desserts, and, of course, pizzas.
Note: Mazzies also features special items on their blackboards, such as unique pizza toppings and desserts, so be sure to keep an eye out for those on your visits!
The food arrived quickly, and everything tasted amazing! The eggplant parmigiana was on the smaller side and slightly oily but had a robust flavor. The mushroom risotto was cooked to perfection, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The highlight, of course, was the pizza. Although I found the portion slightly small for the price, it more than lived up to its accolades, such as being recognized in the World's 50 Top Pizza and 50 Top Pizza Asia. The dough was soft and chewy with a slight char on the crust, giving it that authentic Italian wood-fired oven flavor. The toppings were incredibly flavorful without being overpowering—truly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.
To finish off, I ordered the chocolate mousse, served with a generous dollop of cream, and their special Basque cheesecake, accompanied by raspberry sauce. The chocolate mousse was heavenly, with a rich chocolate flavor that paired perfectly with the cream. Meanwhile, the Basque cheesecake was simply divine, boasting a strong cream cheese flavor and a beautifully burnt crust that lent it a distinct charred taste, balanced exquisitely by the fresh raspberry sauce. Both desserts were exceptionally well-made.
Overall, I left as a very happy customer. The food was delicious, and the staff were attentive. I highly recommend Mazzies to all pizza lovers seeking an incredible dining...
Read moreSuper nice and kind service in both, Thai and English. We felt well welcomed to this small and stylish place with an open kitchen by the waiters. The bossman himself focused on baking pizza, even if a lil hi for fellow English speakers would have been nice once we’re all sharing the small and open space.
If you’re used to European quality pizzas, New York style is different and unfortunately not my slice of pizza this time. The dough was good, but maybe missed some flavor. It being lame really stood out because the pizza itself had no flavor at all. I choose the most expensive pizza from the menu (590 B!!) because it sounded delicious. However it left an ash taste in my mouth, because the edges of the meat bits were burned. Not crispy, but actually burned (see pictures). After half a pizza I asked for chili oil, because was bored to chew the tasteless thing. Even if we’re in Asia, this oil had no chili. It just made the already very oily pizza more oily and to be honest I didn’t even feel like finishing it… glad it was small!
Spanish (Rioja) red wine on the list was very light and in my opinion didn’t make a good match with pizzas. I’m happy you can bring your own wine and they charge you 500 B corkage fee (which is the highest I’ve seen in Thailand so far).
Other pizzas were suuuuper soggy and oily, I didn’t taste them, but in the pictures you can see how they look. Someone said the pepperoni pizza was ok.
I missed truffle on the menu, but appreciate a creative take on the ingredients.
Good customer service saved this place, but literally didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth. Worth of trying!
5 people spent B 5000 (150 USD).
Ps. The big TV is super awkward 😂 I get they wanna be the “local living room” and relaxed place, but that’s what pubs are for! Why to look like a fancy artisan pizza place and bring a 70” screen in to show news in English?! Glad the...
