I checked out Tulum Skybar recently, and I’ve got a lot of thoughts. First off, the place is absolutely gorgeous like a super-stylish rooftop oasis right in the heart of the city. The décor hits you the second you step in, with big, eye-catching statues, bright lights, and this bold, Tulum-inspired aesthetic that’s almost begging you to snap a few photos. If you’re looking for a high-energy spot to have cocktails with friends or impress someone on a date, Tulum Skybar definitely knows how to set the scene.
Atmosphere & Vibes The atmosphere is a total standout. There’s a DJ spinning some great tunes (usually a mix of electronic and lounge music), the lighting is moody and fun, and the rooftop views can be pretty spectacular depending on where you’re seated. It feels like you’re stepping into a high-end tropical party. You can dress up a bit if you want—definitely not your casual flip-flop kinda place. It’s more of a see-and-be-seen vibe.
Cocktails If you’re just here to sip on something creative, you’ll probably have a blast. They serve up some really interesting cocktails—think fruity flavors mixed with exotic twists that tie in with the venue’s Tulum theme. The drinks are fun to look at (and photograph) too. Presentation is clearly something they care about, and I can appreciate that. For a night of just having drinks and chatting, this place scores high in my book.
The Food Situation Now let’s talk about the food, which is where things start to go downhill. I’ve gotta be honest if you come here hungry and expecting a proper meal, you might leave feeling frustrated (and still hungry). The portions are shockingly small. For example, I ordered a scallop dish that was basically three tiny scallops on a plate with no sides, pasta, or anything substantial. And that ran around 1,000 THB (which is over 25-30 USD). That’s steep for what felt more like a mini tasting sample than an entrée.
It doesn’t stop there. The steak while it tasted alright was way too small for the price. You’re looking at around 1,800 THB for something that won’t fill you up. You’re basically paying big-city fine-dining prices, but not getting the quality or quantity you’d expect from a restaurant that charges that much. It’s kind of like they’re leaning too heavily into the “fancy rooftop lounge” aspect without putting enough effort into delivering real value on the food front.
Service Service can be hit or miss. The staff were friendly enough, but when you’re paying a premium, you kind of expect impeccable service, right? Sometimes I had to flag someone down for simple requests, and the wait between orders could feel a bit long. Granted, I get that it’s a busy spot, but for these prices, I’d hope for a bit more attentiveness.
Overall • Pros: Awesome, photogenic décor. Cool vibe for a date or a special night out. Cocktails are tasty and fun. • Cons: The food portions are tiny and pricey. If you’re actually hungry or looking for a full dinner, prepare to be disappointed (and maybe head somewhere else for a real meal).
In the end, Tulum Skybar is more about the show and the spectacle than the substance especially when it comes to dining. My advice? Come for the cocktails and the cool atmosphere, but if you’re craving a satisfying meal, look elsewhere. Trust me, your wallet and your stomach will thank you.
Hope that helps paint a detailed picture, If you do decide to check it out, just go in knowing it’s best for drinks and a vibe not for a...
Read moreThis place was an IMMEDIATE no for me. Right when me and my wife got off the elevator, I could feel the negativity oozing from the staff. We weren’t greeted with a smile and a welcome, but weird looks and a pat down from the security guard like I was going to a nightclub or something but the place was completely empty. Go figure, I was the only person to receive that pat down lol. That’s such a weird decision for them to make seeing that it’s supposed to be an upscale restaurant/bar. The staff needs training ASAP. They hover over you the whole time while you’re making your menu decision and it’s very uncomfortable and makes you feel rushed. You can definitely tell that there is some tension between the staff members as well and we even saw one of the guys who might have been management physically push and pull at his waiter staff. I don’t condone that behavior but it may have been needed because the waiter had some serious unawareness. I had to flag him down hard for service and the place was empty. The DJ was cool though and he helped flag him down….pay that guy extra for sure for doing additional work lol….It felt like the mob was running the place or something and I felt like I needed to timestamp my food and drinks in case I ended up sick somehow lol. Then when we were leaving, they didn’t say thank you, didn’t smile, or didn’t give us a reason to ever want to come back! As a matter fact when we were leaving a staff member was bossing another member around and got into me and my wife’s path and didn’t say excuse me or anything. I really wanted to put on my MMA gloves in that moment. We won’t ever be back especially since you guys have a TON of competition here in Bangkok.
The positives is that the decor looks very nice and Instagram pic worthy and the food is pretty good so shoutout to the chef. I’ve definitely had better drinks at other rooftop bars/sky lounges in Bangkok and there are plenty to choose from. But the drinks were ok I guess.
Ownership/management, when you see this post just understand that your venue has a TON of potential. Hire new bubbly management, give staff proper etiquette training, HIRE SOME WOMEN, stop looking so angry and walking around like you want everybody to know that you own the place, become the same energy that your DJ has, actually offer glasses of wine (not just whole bottles….weird), don’t EVER have your security guard Pat nicely dressed customers that have money to blow (who’s strange decision?), offer actual menus so your staff doesn’t have to hover (everybody doesn’t have the LINE app bro, especially tourists), at least fake a smile like you’re happy and want people to be...
Read moreThis place seems like it was made to look good in 5 second TikTok videos. The esthetic is really neat in all honesty and probably the best part of the experience, but little substance holds it up.
First, if you reserve this place, don’t get your hopes up and think you will be outside. The online reservation doesn’t allow you to pick inside or outside and you won’t know where you’ll be sitting until you get there. When looking for a table on New Year’s Eve they did specify indoor bookings with an “(indoors)” label so I thought because the option I selected didn’t have that, we’d be outside. The hostess lead us inside and when I asked why we couldn’t sit outside, she simply told us the people seated outside booked before us.
Nachos were laughable. I would call them chips and dip really. You get a small pile of corn chips and a couple of little cups of whatever condiment is in the particular option you got.
The seared tuna salad and baked salmon we got were pretty good though.
Cocktails weren’t bad tbh. Prices were a bit high but not exorbitant. Service is lacking though. There were two of us and they brought my wife’s cocktail about 5-10 minutes after mine.
We got two drinks–an gin/elderflower one and a passion fruit based tropical drink. I didn’t taste much gin in that cocktail but it was still alright. I probably wouldn’t recommend it because it tasted more like elderflower tonic than something with gin in it. The tropical drink was good and would be the kind of thing I’d order again.
Quick side note, watch where you step when walking through doorways because the edges of their floor tiles are uncovered so it’s easy to trip over them. I saw several people stumble at the entrance to the indoor area in the 45 minutes we were there. I was one of them.
Again, this bar has a nice esthetic and you’ll get some good pictures out of it. For the price, the food wasn’t worth it and even though the cocktails were good, not much about the place made me want to stay for more than half an hour so we didn’t get a...
