I honestly don't know if Nee Papaya and Thaidurm have different chefs in the day to the evening, because I just can't reconcile the amazing reviews of both with the two experiences we have had for lunch at both 🤔
At Thaidurm we ordered: spring roles, seafood hot pot, chicken cashew nut, mixed vegetable with oyster sauce and chicken tenders.
Cons: Chicken tenders were nothing but gristle battered and fried. Every single piece was gristle, and we refused to pay at the end of this dish as it was so bad.
Seafood hot pot - I like spicy but the mixture of flavour just didn't work and the seafood was mainly squid and tough
Spring roles - I don't think these were handmade as there were hardly any vegetables inside and each one was basically just puff pastry
Mixed vegetables - pretty blah overall
Big big no no was the waitress adding the amount up 3 times on a calculator (minutes the chicken tenders aka chicken gristle), and also showing the cashier the change of 375 baht on the calculator and the cashier giving me back 275. I questioned this and they said no all ok. I walked away and did the maths in my head. Definitely 375. I walked back and showed them the right amount and they still did the calculation again before saying 'sorry' and giving the right amount back. I adore Thai people for their honesty, but this was pretty blatant dishonesty.
Pro - The chicken cashew nut dish has more cashew nuts that others we tried.
Verdict - Walk an extra 50 meters and spend your money and...
Read moreVery popular and highly rated restaurant, but for us, the experience was not good at all!
The page is crowded (that's a good sign) ordered grilled welks, crispy pork with kale, garlic and chilli paste stir fried with chicken (both very basic standard Thai dishes) with egg cooked with little oil. Made it clear (in Thai) "not too much oil".
Welks were basic, crispy pork was likely from the previous day, was once crispy but not when served to us. It was old, no flavour for the whole dish, very bland.
Chicken stir fried with garlic and chilli paste was full of onions and so much oil! The sauce was just oil and again very very bland. Tried to just pick out the vet dry chicken to eat only but had enough of such bland food....
No satisfaction check from the staff and when reporting it to the server she laughed...I had to say I'm serious (all spoken in Thai), she informed the owner who just strugged shoulders without any care.
I believe perhaps this was obese once a good restaurant but they are now a victim of their own success with not caring too much as they already have people queuing up to get in!
I would never normally write negative reviews unless the feedback was informed without any recovery. This is that situation.
Risk a meal here, or go to many other...
Read moreThe first time I came here I paid more for a large portion and the portion they gave me was absolutely tiny with very little meat and not good quality at all. I made the mistake of going here again to give a second chance and ordered the omelette and was absolutely inedible, took one bite and didn’t eat anymore, so just like eating pure deep fried fat and couldn’t actually taste any egg. One of the waitresses there also had zero hospitality skills, doesn’t smile, doesn’t even acknowledge when you say hello or thank you, just slams your food down on the table and walks away. I would definitely not recommend...
