Pirate Kitchen — Restaurant in Ko Lipe

We ended up eating here two nights in a row—and for good reason. The menu offers dishes you won’t easily find at other spots on the island, and even though we only sampled a few restaurants during our stay, I feel confident saying this was the most memorable dining experience on Koh Lipe. It’s the kind of place you simply have to try at least once while you’re here.

We started with the coconut shrimp and spring rolls—both fresh and satisfying—but the real standouts came next. The Thai omelet was delicious, but the true highlights of the menu were the Pirate Salad and the Chu Chee.

Now, I’ll admit, the “Thai-style ceviche” known as the Pirate Salad sounded a little intimidating at first. But it absolutely blew us away. A perfectly balanced explosion of citrus, spice, and herbs—it exceeded expectations a thousand times over.

Then came the Chu Chee: thick, tender steaks of king mackerel bathing in a rich red curry. Every bite was packed with depth and heat, and honestly, I’d return to Koh Lipe just to have this dish again. It was, without question, the best meal I had during my time in Thailand.

Highly recommended restaurant on the beautiful island of Lipe. We tried other places, but Pirate Kitchen was among the best in terms of flavors and cleanliness!

The price is reasonable too, and I love their use of stainless steel cups instead of plastic ones for serving water—such a thoughtful touch!

In terms of the dishes, my family rates their Thai lime chili steamed fish as one of the best on the entire island. It’s incredibly spicy, fresh, and has a unique kick that other places just don’t have. The authentic Thai flavors really shine through. Other places we tried used sea bass, which doesn’t even come close to Pirate Kitchen!

Comenzamos la noche con un ceviche tailandés que fue simplemente espectacular. El equilibrio entre la frescura del pescado, el toque ácido del limón y las especias tailandesas creó un plato lleno de sabor y frescura. Fue una explosión de sabores tropicales, perfectamente armonizados.

Luego, llegó el pescado a la brasa, y tengo que decir que superó todas nuestras expectativas. Estaba perfectamente cocinado, con una piel crujiente y un interior tierno que prácticamente se deshacía en la boca. El aroma ahumado de la brasa complementó a la perfección la frescura del pescado. Acompañamos el plato con un arroz frito con huevo, sencillo pero delicioso, preparado con ese toque especial que solo los chefs tailandeses saben darle.

Lo que realmente hizo que Pirate Kitchen fuera especial no fue solo la comida, sino el ambiente. Había música en directo, y para nuestra sorpresa, el propio dueño del restaurante salió a cantar, dándole al lugar una energía auténtica y familiar. La noche se volvió aún más divertida cuando dos personas del público se animaron a subir al escenario y cantar, creando una atmósfera espontánea y alegre.
