The Duke Pub & Restaurant — Restaurant in Ko Samui

We were impressed with the size and style of The Duke, drinks were ok, but the food was unfortunately not. Starters were nice (prawn cocktail and breaded mushrooms) but nothing special and comparatively expensive. My wife's main course of half chicken was truly awful, inedible and dry (it appeared to have been deep fried to reheat it) so was sent back. Alternative main of spaghetti bolognese was very sweet and again inedible. Bangers & Mash was also way too dry and overcooked, plus portion was almost a childs size (for THB300 it was shocking). Owner did not charge for my wife's food (which she didn't eat), but that's not really the point. We had to go elsewhere to eat proper food. Fancied some British food after being in Thailand for a while and this place looked to fit the bill. It certainly looked the part, was well decorated and felt relatively authentic. Unfortunately that was limited to the decor and decor only. The food was nothing short of atrocious. I ordered a toad in the hole which contained two revolting ‘Cumberland’ sausages surrounded by undercooked cakey yorkshire. Sent it back once, was no better when it returned. Staff were helpful enough to refund, but no apology given. My girlfriend had the spaghetti bolognaise that tasted very sweet, like a jar sauce with lots of added sugar. Food was also expensive compared to other places nearby. Would not recommend… maybe better...

Went there for a meal 2 weeks ago & i had pad thai, it was a very humid day there around lunch time. The meal came quick enough & there was only a few people in the restaurant, the portion was small & it tasted ok. The problem was i woke up at night in my hotel with a heavy head & diarrhea, it took me 2 days to get my appetite back. I reckon because been an outdoor restaurant & how they store the food ingredients in that heat, i picked the bug from that.
