Amena Burger — Restaurant in Patong

I have frequented this place for the last 4 years it was the best burger in Patong not just the taste but the value for money, unfortunately that is no longer the case. Having visited today, a new menu has appeared, and between December 24 and now, January 25, they have added another 50bht to a double burger with egg meal, costing 320bht, or £7.41- its not NYC or London, they are now more expensive than a large double quarter pounder with cheese meal deal from McDonald's, that's delivered to your door!!! The price has incrased by 50%, in less than 12 months! What you need to bear in mind is this is a backstreet cart, with no running water, no facilities whereby you have to sit on a small plastic stool on the dirty street. If you take it away you only get half a portion of fries in the same box as the burger. Plus, they are handling all the money in the same gloves that they then use to load your fresh, lettuce, onion and tomato onto the bun....... and we all know worldwide that money is the dirtiest thing to handle, especially with food. So, unfortunately that is now my last visit, far too expensive and becoming kind of a rip off. This is Thailand not Europe where you get certain standards and expect to pay extra for it. The first time I saw this burger stand, it had at least 20 people in line for the food. So before I left Phuket I had to try it. First the burger is really tender and juicy with the bread being warm and soft. I've never had the patty encapsulated in egg with the sauce within, but it was a pleasant surprise. I wish there were more fries but I wasn't complaining. The staff of two was friendly and accomodating and I felt truly appreciated. There wasn't much seating but you have to be realistic. I ordered a beef burger meal with cheese balls. The bread was soft and fresh, which was a good start. Unfortunately, the fries were frozen and lacked the crispiness and flavor of freshly made ones. The biggest letdown was the beef patty-it had an odd texture and taste, like it was mixed with fillers instead of being pure beef. This really made me question the quality of the ingredients.
