I went to this restaurant with high expectations because I read some good reviews for this place. However the reality was decidedly different.
I am always puzzled as to why the food quality is never there.
Today I have finally have an inkling of why most high expense restaurants in Pattaya are so decidedly underwhelming.
The Wienerschnitzel was humongous however contained very little meat because the cook has pounded it to oblivion. It was the the thinness of a paper which makes it extremely salty.
I found it inedible due to the extreme saltiness.
I do not see any recipe for Wiener schnitzel that says you must pound it to the max. The recipe also DOES not mention about liberally application of salt onto the meat after pounding it to maximum thinness. I really do not know where you learned to cook. I also do not appreciate cooks that make up their own understanding of how to cook without learning “how to cook”.
The mussels were similarly very salty. I am sure the cook trainee was convinced that salt will cure all flavor issues. I cook mussels myself so I KNOW THE NATURAL saltiness of the mussels. I eat it all the time in Belgium and at 2 star Michelin restaurant in Bangkok. I have NEVER encountered salty mussels served that I was served here.
I forgot to mentioned the Scallops which I know is not naturally salty. However I received scallops that must have had 1 teaspoon of salt added to each scallop.
I read from another Korean reviewer that basically stated the identical comments as me. You replied by attacking Korean food in Korea! Saying Korean food in Korea is very salty too.
I eat at a fantastic Korean restaurant here in Pattaya and their food was delicious and NOT as salty. Of course Kimchi is salty however it is expected.
I am quite certain that the cook that night only received couple of hours of training before starting to work here they also have no oversight on what they did. I think the main cook was cooking for the huge party of 12 people so all my food was prepared by the trainee cook. I believe it is quiet irresponsible for not having a Chef present. I am extremely saddened that you did not work that night. I think the most capable of that evening was Mark the server. He was nice to me and actually checked up on me. Your other staff just walk right past me and I waited 2 hours for simple dishes that should have been finished in less than a hour.
You also must have noticed that I ate the entire baked potato because that was the only food that was not explicitly SALTED! Look at the photo and noticed that only the potato was eaten by me. They also never mentioned when I ordered that you charge 120 baht for the potato a priori.
There are only two good French restaurants in Pattaya that I have experienced.
The first one the chef is actually French and have been cooking French cuisine for over 30 years.
He actually comes and speak to you about your preferences.
The second French restaurant the cooking is done by the owner/chef’s wife. So you you know she has at least couple years of experience cooking French cuisine.
I was extremely disappointed by the performance of this restaurant so I have nothing...
Read moreIf I was scoring this on the basis of other restaurants in Pattaya then perhaps it would warrant a 4.5 star rating, but on the basis that perhaps tourists from overseas would come here then internationally it scores a 2.5 - 3 stars. International cuisine standards are generally poor in this region of Thailand compared to say Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta etc.
Service is friendly; but in Thailand that is the norm for foreigners. Although friendly it is not particularly informative as a customer may expect from a restaurant aiming to be high quality.
The food we ordered was below par. The meat was under cooked (asked for medium rare but was rare). Mashed potato was not fluffy but near soft/soggy; was not sure it was freshly made either. The plate was swimming in a bland sauce. I saw a fish being deskinned at an adjacent table. It was poorly executed with the fish meat being broken up in several pieces followed by some hacking to retrieve additional fish bones (at least they did not try to serve it with fish bones; so kudos for that). A side dish that was ordered was not delivered to our table. Generally our food was under seasoned.
But for the biggest surprise; something that I found incredible in the 21st century, were very large signs on the tables forbidding the taking of photos for posting on social media! Seriously??? That alone would cause a storm of online abuse in some countries! Remarkable attitude by management.
The decor is okay; It is outdated though. Not helped by aircon blowing directly over some tables. However given Covid effects and resultant financial pressures, renovation would not be a priority for management.
The entrance is a bit of a loose end. Upon entering there is no maître d' or obvious wait space so guests walk in and stand around looking for a waiter/waitress much to the annoyance of nearby diners.
The menu is perhaps a bit bloated and seems a bit disjointed probably because it is trying to cater for a multitude of tastes from diverse tourists and local Thai options. I would prefer to see a smaller menu but well executed.
The one surprise we encountered was that the house wines were palatable although expensive by Pattaya standards for the (inconsistent) volume of wine by the glass
Overall, for Pattaya, where there is a dearth of half decent quality restaurants it's ok. Prices are fine but there is nothing on offer from the menu, décor or service that would entice an international traveler to...
Read moreI came back again for the Wiener Schnitzel. This time the Schnitzel was great and cooked to the point. But the French Fries are still a no go.... I will lift up my rating from 4 to 4,5. But please, change these French Fries.....
My first rating: I had a good time here. I visited first time, after heard a lot about it. During Corona I read about Casa Pascal very often from abroad. He fighted hard to keep the restaurant running. His buffet brunch might be famous and I am sure it's worth to join it....
We arrived in the late evening and sat outside to smoke a cigar. The waiter was super friendly and funny. Not so many guests present on a Thursday, but it is low season.
The ambience is nice, but inside a little soi. Parking is easy. Chairs are comfortable and fans are running outside. White table sets and linen to give a fine dining style.
We got 2 times an amouse bouche/ greeting from the kitchen. We came only to taste the giant Schnitzel Vienna Style. As I am from Switzerland and can cook by myself and my Mother is from Austria, it was a bit tricky with the Schnitzel. Let's say it was quite ok, but not outstanding. The French fries I didn't like so much, a bit sloopy. Even simple French fries are not easy to cook. You really have to be alert and hit the correct oil temperature with fresh oil. I would prefer the real Pommes allumettes or at least the corrugated, curved French fries to pep it up a bit. The price was fair and worth it.
It was a nice evening and I will definitely come back for the...
