Avani Pattaya Resort — Hotel in Pattaya City

absolutely appalled by the price for this place that claims to be a 5 star place. I would give it 3 stars. this resort is very out dated and has some mould in the bathroom no view point as pictured in agoda under "facilities" on the cover page. It is not pictured under the subheading of "rooms" and is one of the main reasons for me to book this property. Cleaning staff say it is on the top floor and opens at night, front counter staff say it is only in the special condo rooms and not for customers. If I knew this from the start I would have booked else where as that was one of my main points for booking. No ocean view for guests and only thing it has going is the pool (and this is meant to be 5 stars) and as the sun goes down is infested with mosquitoes, we have been bitten numerous times in the lobby and by the pool asked to book extra nights from 18th - 23rd as i initially only booked 2 nights to see how the room was due to all the reviews regarding thin walls that had no soundproofing, front staff say I am unable to because it is fully booked and that is without checking there system or anything at all then I go on agoda and book the extra nights and get confirmation on booking straight away and secured the extra nights without an issue through a 3rd party company the balcony has no screen door so you cannot allow fresh air to enter the room unless you want mosquitoes inside as they have a water lake inside the property and alot of mosquitoes at a certain time they switch off the water fountain and that's when the mozzies arrive, your only option is to have air con and sit inside your room with no fresh air the last night of our stay as we arrived back from dinner we were stopped by security and front desk staff and as we walked into the hotel the staff asked for my girlfriends passport and I.d credentials as if she was not allowed to stay here, then was told she would not get her passport back until we check out!!! Totally unprofessional and an insult. They should be ashamed! I have payed top dollar to be at this hotel that claims to be 5 star and that really belittled me to the point that I will never return here. It is not right to be asked on our 7th and last night of being here. So embarrassing for me to bring my girlfriend to this hotel for her birthday and go through this especially considering they only asked her for her I.d and not me. The room has mould and rotten bits, big gaps in the bathroom door that make the room smell if you go to the toilet. Some times when I read reviews on a hotel I have stayed at, I think, were we in the same hotel? I stayed here in February of this year. To start with, the service is impeccable, from the check in process to checking out, you are greeted by smiles and welcoming attitudes. The attendants that are stationed at the elevator, for hours, are courteous, constantly smiling and fast on the button. I had a corner room, and was very pleased with it, good size. Great view, large balcony to hang out on. The room was spotlessly cleaned every morning. The smiling room attendant did a great job. I very much appreciated my room was done up early in the morning, most mornings it was done before returning from breakfast. I have been to many hotel/resorts in South Asia, the breakfast here is superb. The selection and quality were of a high standard. If they did not have something, it was made for you. Baked tomato's were great, one morning they didn't have any, I simply asked if there would be any and next thing I knew I had a baked tomato. And every morning after that, the chef made for me with out asking. Pancakes eggs all made to your liking. Fresh sushi, donuts, every thing. The grounds it self are pristine, I do not think I saw one leaf on the ground. The pool is big, you can swim laps. There are plenty of loungers to be had. Not like in some properties where the lounge hogs have towels on them first thing in the morning and then no place to lay in the sun. I payed extra for the use of the Executive Lounge. It was a nice option to drop into during the day for peace and quite and have a soft drink. The evening with alcoholic drinks and canape's was a nice way to get ready for the evening. I am not a drinker like some of the people in there, so I am not sure if it was worth the extra I payed. The only sour note was, rude self important people that go in at happy hour. Not the hotels fault. The location is superb. You are on the Baht Bus route, so from the front of the hotel, get a Baht bus and travel in a big circle, you will see all the shops and markets. Three minute walk to the beach, even less, going out the side entrance. It comes out on Beach Road. Perfect!!! I highly recommend this property, for single, couple, family, you all will be happy.
