We had a pleasant brunch (literally breakfast followed by lunch) and delicious gin & cocktails at Rangoon Tea House @ Bangkok.
Very beautiful and conveniently located, with ample parkings, the restaurant attempts quite successfully to replicate the colonial Burmese vibe / ambience of their original branch in Rangoon. The restaurant was busy from the morning through lunch time on Sunday, with a good mix of Myanma people, expats and locals alike.
The food reflects the nature of its multi-ethnic, multicultural country of origin, and comprises of separate menu for interesting breakfast, lunch and dinner of not only authentic Burmese or local food normally found in Myanmar, but also food with influences of its neighboring countries as well as fusions.
We particularly enjoyed the more authentic Burmese food such as the tea leaf salad, pennywort salad, Mohinga and Shan noodles as well as Mutton Biryani.
RTH also offers a wide variety of aromatic and tasty gin as well as exotic and interesting cocktails. Turns out they also make liquor from various tropical fruits in house.
We were very fortunate to have met “Ning.” She fluently explained about every interesting item on the menu, with most pride of her home country and its culture, and she did it in such a friendly, responsive and professional manner with impeccable services provided. Ning happened to be a generous and proficient bartender; she did an amazing job with one after another wonderful concoctions with such strong and memorable character. She did indeed play a big role in making our more than three hours gathering among dear friends at RTH well spent and even more worthwhile. A big thank...
Read moreSo let my start by saying their Yangon branch was always a go to for me and I'm super happy that they are now in Bangkok and wish them all the success in the world.
I went as a single person just after 11am. Walk in. Was told as they were all booked out would I mind sitting next to the small table in the corner by the door. Fine (though the entire time I was there - a bit under an hour - at least 4 tables remained empty).
Menu wise isn't as extensive as in Yangon, and much more pricier. Understandable - they're just off Thonglor. I asked for one of the Pork curries only to be told the didn't have any of the curries available today. Went instead for the delicious noodle dishes which was great. Duck empenada's were perhaps a little too sweet. The first set came out cold in the middle, but they were quickly replaced. But their tea's were fantastic which is the main reason I went.
There was a slight screw up in the order with one dish that came out that I had cancelled. I put it down to the waiter not hearing me cancelling one dish after I changed the order, which I don't blame her for. I was also at fault at not hearing her properly when she went over my order. Unfortunately the place is cavernous and thus makes it a bit hard to hear as it gets noisy easily.
Last thing was they don't accept credit cards. QR scans or cash only. I hope this changes as their menu isn't cheap and the sign on the door actually says 'American Express accepted'.
I'm certain these are just teething problems and I wish them all the best. Oh yeah, don't be like me and go without a...
Read moreA Journey Through Flavor and Atmosphere – Rangoon Tea House
From the moment I stepped into Rangoon Tea House, it felt like I had entered a portal to another world. The atmosphere is captivating, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy exceptional food.
While the prices aren’t the lowest, the value is unbeatable, especially for a group of three or more. This is the kind of place you go with people you adore, where sharing food adds to the experience. Every bite was unforgettable—I still think about the flavors and can’t wait to return. If you’re new to Burmese cuisine, don’t hesitate to ask the staff for recommendations. That was a game-changer for me, unlocking dishes I wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.
The drinks menu is another highlight. I was impressed by the selection, especially the ability to enjoy quality wine by the glass—a rare treat. While I’d love to see more options for special occasions, the current selection is still fantastic. A glass of Cava hit the spot perfectly!
The service truly stands out. The staff are warm, attentive, and so charming—it felt like they were genuinely happy to have us there. The attention to detail and hospitality were top-notch. I couldn’t find a single flaw even if I tried—everything about this place is exceptional.
The elegant design, spotless bar, and clean, well-maintained restroom were the icing on the cake.
Thank you, Rangoon Tea House, for a fantastic experience! Please, keep this place exactly as it is. I look forward to...
