We booked a 3-night package at InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit through the IHG website, which included three spa treatments during our stay.
On the first day, I selected “The Leisure” deep tissue massage and noted “strong pressure” on the preference checklist. However, the massage didn’t feel particularly deep or strong, and it lacked the intensity typically associated with deep tissue treatments. Before our second visit, I intended to change the massage type. But the staff didn’t ask what kind of massage we wanted—they simply led us straight into the room. I requested to see the menu and explained that the first session didn’t meet our expectations in terms of pressure. The therapist, Yui, told me that since we were receiving a 60-minute massage, they couldn’t apply strong pressure. She claimed that deep pressure requires a longer session (90 minutes or more), and 60 minutes is mainly for relaxation.
Despite feeling uncomfortable, I didn’t argue further and accepted the second massage. After the session, Yui asked if it was okay. I said it was “fine,” but again, she suggested I should book a two-hour session next time for stronger pressure. At that point, I started to feel not only uncomfortable but also disrespected. I began to wonder if guests using the spa package were being treated differently—or perhaps the therapist simply didn’t want to work hard.
During our final visit, we realized something even more confusing. We thought we had received “The Leisure” massage again for the second session, but the therapist named Ta (who had treated my sister previously) mentioned that we had actually received a Thai massage with some stretching elements. This was never clearly explained to us, and the treatment didn’t feel significantly different—no notable stretching or Thai techniques that stood out.
I told Ta that we never requested a change in type. We only mentioned wanting stronger pressure. I also asked her which treatment typically involved stronger pressure—Thai massage with stretching or “The Leisure” deep tissue. She confirmed that deep tissue is the one designed for stronger pressure, contradicting what Yui had said.
We asked to receive “The Leisure” massage again, this time with the strong pressure we originally requested. While waiting, I noticed that Ta was likely relaying our feedback to the manager and other staff. It felt like there was some behind-the-scenes discussion, and I ended up being treated by another therapist, Honey, while Yui took care of my sister.
In the end, I left feeling extremely dissatisfied with Yui’s attitude and the overall service. On the first day, they gave us a feedback form, and I wrote that everything was “okay”—not because it was, but because I didn’t want to create awkwardness when I still had two more visits scheduled. But the truth is, we felt so uncomfortable due to Yui’s behavior that it affected the entire spa experience.
One more thing to note: the spa does not have an in-room restroom. If you need to use the toilet during the treatment, you have to leave the spa entirely, which is very inconvenient for a hotel of this caliber.
After this stay, we visited another hotel spa in Bangkok and received a 60-minute deep tissue aroma massage that was heavenly—no discussion about time affecting pressure, just professional service and real technique.
This spa was a major disappointment, both in hardware and service quality. I would not return to this hotel again, and I sincerely hope this review helps others set their expectations...

Floating above the city on the 32nd floor rooftop of the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit, The Spa by HARNN isn’t just any spa — it’s Thailand’s very first HARNN-branded spa. And honestly, it’s everything you’d expect from a name synonymous with luxury wellness… and more.
The setting alone is breathtaking: right next to the rooftop pool, with sweeping views of the Sukhumvit skyline that instantly calm the senses before your treatment even begins. Sleek, serene, and softly scented with botanical oils, it’s a truly elevated escape — literally and figuratively.
This Japanese-Thai-inspired spa focuses on curated, holistic treatments that combine modern technique with ancient healing traditions. The space itself is intimate, with three treatment rooms (one designed for couples with a private bath), and every detail is thoughtful — from origami-like motifs to gentle lighting and soundscapes that soothe without distraction.
I went for “The Soulful” treatment — a Thai-Aroma Oil Massage — and it was exactly what I needed. 60 minutes of expert hands using a combination of palm pressure, gentle stretching, and warm aromatic oils melted away all tension in my back, shoulders, and legs. It struck the perfect balance between deep muscle relief and spa-level relaxation. I left feeling looser, lighter, and way more aligned than when I arrived.
One of the signature highlights here is “The Origami” ritual, inspired by Japanese paper folding and Thai flower garlands — a fusion of Shiatsu, Thai massage, and aromatherapy that’s totally unique to this spa.
Beyond the massage, you can unwind in the spa’s shared rooftop facilities: a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and the adjacent rooftop infinity pool — one of the most scenic pool experiences in Sukhumvit.
Whether you're a guest at the hotel or a city dweller looking for a refined escape, The Spa by HARNN is a must-visit for serious spa-goers and design lovers alike. It’s intimate, immersive, and absolutely unforgettable — a perfect mix of therapeutic care and luxury indulgence, with Bangkok laid...
