Overview Mae Varee, located just a two-minute walk from Thong Lor BTS Station, has earned a reputation as one of the finest purveyors of mango sticky rice in Bangkok. Despite the crowd that gathers daily at this humble takeaway stall, its fame is well-deserved, and the flavors speak for themselves.
Food & Menu Highlights Mae Varee's signature offering, the Mango & 3-Color Sticky Rice (160 Baht), is a visual and culinary delight. The mango, bursting with ripe sweetness, is simply unparalleled in flavor. Paired with beautifully colored sticky rice—white, blue, and green—the dish is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the palate. The vibrant blue hue is derived from butterfly pea flower, while the green is sourced from fragrant pandan leaves. The coconut cream, poured generously over the dish, adds a luxurious richness that balances the natural sweetness of the mango. Each element is meticulously prepared, ensuring that the sticky rice remains soft, fragrant, and delicately infused with coconut, yet never greasy.
The portion size is notably generous, with an abundance of mango—more than you'd find at most competitors. Even on my second visit, the stall maintained its reputation for consistency, with no signs of compromise in quality.
For those craving mango in its purest form, Mae Varee also offers uncut mangoes, a perfect choice for taking home or gifting.
Ambiance & Service As a takeaway-only establishment, Mae Varee lacks traditional seating, but this minor inconvenience is easily overlooked given the quality of the food. Despite the often long queues, the service is swift and efficient—testament to the stall's well-oiled operation.
Verdict Whether you are a local or a visitor, Mae Varee’s mango sticky rice is an essential experience. The perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and fragrant elements elevates this dish to the highest standard. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting Bangkok, and, quite frankly, you’ll likely be disappointed...

My wife and I went over around 9pm to get their famous mango sticky rice. We were so excited. “No.1 Mango Sticky Rice” as written on their instagram page! Must be good.
We dropped in, got 2 boxes. Brought it back to our hotel ready to feast.
Across the 4-5 different mango sticky rices we tried in Bangkok, I dare say this was the worst mango sticky rice we had.
Main issue was that the mango was extremely sour. It wasn’t just that it was tasteless or mild - flavour profile completely suggested that it wasn’t ready to be consumed.
Mae Varee has been around for a long time, so I reckon the store owners probably knew the mangoes weren’t ready. One look and even an inexperienced person like myself could tell that the pale yellow mango ain’t gonna be great.
I would have given 2/5 because the sticky rice was actually okay, but I’m not sure if there is an issue of integrity. Other establishments would say “mango isn’t ripe, I don’t want to sell it to you” as a sign of integrity and pride for the product they are selling.
Maybe we went at night and they ran out of good mangoes but still. There’s no time limit on customer service.
Pretty disappointing for a store that is known for mango sticky rice! Go at your own risk especially if you’re...
Read moreMae Varee is the holy grail of mango sticky rice in Bangkok 🥭🍚. This small but famous shop near Thonglor BTS has been serving up some of the juiciest, sweetest mangoes and perfectly cooked sticky rice for years, and yes—it absolutely lives up to the hype. If you’re a fan of this Thai dessert, this place should be on your bucket list.
The mangoes are always top-quality, with that perfect balance of sweetness and softness, paired with sticky rice that’s just the right texture—not too mushy, not too dry. The coconut milk drizzle adds a rich, creamy touch, making every bite pure bliss. They also sell pre-packaged sets, so you can grab one and enjoy it later (if you somehow have the patience to wait) 😆.
The only downside? Prices here are higher than your average street vendor 💸, but you’re paying for premium quality, and it’s worth every baht. Plus, it’s a small shop, so expect a bit of a crowd, especially during peak hours.
Overall, Mae Varee is a must-visit for mango sticky rice lovers. It’s the kind of dessert that makes you rethink every other mango you’ve...
