After seeing so many beautiful videos and glowing recommendations on social media, I was genuinely excited to visit Tichuca Rooftop Bar during our stay in Bangkok. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t live up to the hype.
Two weeks before our trip, I tried to book a table by emailing them directly through their website, but received no response at all. That should have been an early red flag.
We visited on a Saturday night around 11 PM. As soon as we entered the hotel lobby, we were met with a very long queue, waiting nearly 25 minutes just to get a lift to the bar. After about 10 minutes in the queue, a staff member came around handing out menus and slips indicating that our entry would be standing only—no table.
Once we finally reached the front, we were directed into another queue to purchase a drink—entry was free, but buying a drink was mandatory. After making our purchase, we were told to join yet another queue to access the lift to the actual rooftop bar. When we arrived on the designated floor, we had to queue once again for a final lift to reach the top.
By the time we made it up, the place was extremely overcrowded. It felt like they were letting in as many people as possible, with no regard for comfort or experience. Staff seemed disengaged, and it was clear that the volume of people had overwhelmed the space. The drinks were nice and the views were truly stunning, but sadly, the poor organization completely overshadowed any enjoyment.
Even basic amenities were lacking. There was only one small smoking area that barely fits 5 people, no signage to direct you to it, and most surprisingly—only one toilet cubicle per gender. For a venue of this size and popularity, that’s simply unacceptable.
What added to the confusion was seeing reserved signs on tables, despite the fact that their website doesn’t offer any option to book. It was disheartening after making so much effort to secure a spot in advance.
In short, Tichuca looks beautiful in videos, but the execution and management fall far short. If they limited the number of guests, provided proper booking options, and improved basic logistics, it could truly live up to the hype. But as it stands, our experience was stressful, poorly organized, and far from enjoyable. I wouldn’t return unless major...
Read moreCame in with my wife to see what all the hype was about and it was nothing but trials and tribulations from start to finish. The entire experience at the front door was synonymous with getting manhandled by TSA agents at an airport. We didn’t just walk into the building and get onto an elevator, but instead we got interrogated and frisked like we were trying to smuggle drugs through an airport.
Once we got upstairs we were given a table and approached to place a drink order. The drinks were decent, but the prices were a total ripoff. Everything on the menu was one step behind what you would pay in a country like Dubai or Singapore, or completely out of touch with what anyone should be paying for alcoholic beverages in Bangkok.
The sun hadn’t even set and people were being herded through the door like cattle. What began as a relatively organized setting quickly turned into a clown show of ring lights, flickering cameras, and obnoxious social media influencers covering every square foot of the rooftop. A third of the people were actually spending money while everyone else was being disruptive and disrespectful, even going as far as dumping their empty cups on our table.
The place only had 2 toilets to cater to roughly 200 people that had piled into the place like a refugee shelter. Once it became clear that we walked right into a tourist trap we asked for our bill and left.
The place has a nice bar setup, but that’s about it. It was a clear case of pack as many people as you can inside and rake them over the coals for as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time. Finally, on top of the Dubai prices for everything on the menu, this place also tacks on an extortionate 17% tax onto the bill.
This place is not worth the money or the hassle of admission. There are just too many better bars in Bangkok to consider before wasting time and money on what is tantamount to a theme park for clueless tourists and classless social media influencers that have to shove a camera in front of anything and anyone in their paths. If you are expecting an intimate night out just forget it because it isn’t going to...
Read moreTichuca and Chupa have so much potential but are let down by their music selection and DJ performance.
Tichuca: Tichuca is undeniably stunning, offering a breathtaking city view from the 45th floor. The rooftop bar spans three levels (45th, 46th, and 47th floors), giving you plenty of space to enjoy the incredible atmosphere. The entry process is smooth and well-organized—just make sure to carry a soft or hard copy of your ID for verification.
The system for purchasing drinks is a bit unique. You buy your drinks on the ground floor and then collect them at the 45th-floor counter. After your first purchase, you can continue buying drinks directly at any of the levels. The vibe is extraordinary, and the panoramic view of the city makes it a must-visit spot.
Chupa: Located on the 44th floor, Chupa offers an indoor space with a proper dance floor. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a livelier party vibe compared to Tichuca’s rooftop chill atmosphere.
Cons: The biggest letdown for both Tichuca and Chupa is the music. Tichuca plays vintage songs that don’t match the extraordinary vibe of the space, and the DJs don’t seem to have a grasp on how to create energy or keep the crowd vibing. They really need to switch to techno or deep house to elevate the experience.
At Chupa, while the dance floor is great, it’s hard to enjoy yourself because of the same issue—terrible music. To make matters worse, there’s someone constantly screaming at the end of every track, which becomes highly annoying and kills the mood.
Final Thoughts: Tichuca and Chupa have fantastic views, an extraordinary vibe, and a great setup, but the music is a huge drawback. With better DJs and a stronger focus on matching the music to the venue’s energy, these places could easily be among the top nightlife destinations in the city. Until then, it’s worth a visit for the views and drinks but don’t expect a great...
