Kai Yang Hua Hin — Restaurant in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

Street food restaurant near our hotel. The opening hours on Google is wildly inaccurate. E.g. we went yesterday but google said it closes on Sundays. Also it opens until late (perhaps midnight), not closing at 8pm. Very good food and perhaps the cheapest restaurant we’ve been in Thailand so far.

Papaya salad is the highlight. It’s so good that we ordered second. The cockles are also fresh, umami, and crunchy. Served with the classic chilli lime dipping sauce; but their sauce tastes better than other places. We also ordered grilled squid. It took a while to serve. A small cut up squid served with the same chili lime sauce. Plain rice, noodle, and Chang beer completes our order. Each table is also served with cabbage wedges and Thai basil to snack on. The cabbage is very sweet and helps to diffuse the heat from the chili sauce.

The staff members all wear multiple hats and are so busy. Service might be slow but your food will arrive eventually. The road side atmosphere is as Thai as it gets. They have nice lighting and music playing too. Relaxing, delicious, delightful, is how I would describe this little...

I had the spicy sliced duck and Thai style som dtam with salted egg. As this is Isan style cooking the spicy designation lives up to it's billing. The som dtam or papaya salad was a little salty. I could've added a touch of sugar but didn't. At first I didn't think it was spicy enough, but a few minutes into my salad the spice came out. The duck was plenty spicy, but I still added a bit of nam pla prik. I love Isan food, and consider cooks from that region to be among the best in the country. I had a short 10-minute wait, as this is a very popular street food restaurant. The wait gives you time to view the extensive menu items, and time to make your selection. On my next trip to eat here I'll order the signature grilled chicken. Service is good and prices are fair. It's not the cheapest street food you're going to find in Hua Hin, but it's a good value for authentic...

ไปกินร้านนี้สามครั้ง สรุปว่า ร้านนี้ต้อนรับ แต่โต๊ะชาวต่างชาติ และโต๊ะใหญ่ๆที่ สั่งเยอะๆ..

ครั้งแรกไปกันสองคน ลูกค้าเต็มทุกโต๊ะ พนักงานไม่ต้อนรับ ถามอะไรก็ไม่ตอบ หน้าบึ้งตึง เราถามว่า ต้องจองคิวอะไรไหม ก็ยื่นเมนูให้เฉยๆ เราทำตัวไม่ถูก พอมีคนลุกจากโต๊ะ เราก็จะเดินไปนั่ง พนักงานตะโกนมาว่า ต้องตามคิว ..เอ่อ เราไม่เคยคิดจะแซงคิวใครอยู่แล้ว เพราะนึกว่า ที่ยืนคอยอยู่ สั่งกลับบ้าน

ครั้งที่สอง เราไปกับเพื่อนชาวต่างชาติ พนักงงาน หลายคน ยกมือไหว้ สวัสดี ต้อนรับอย่างดีเลย ผิดกับครั้งแรกมากกก

ครั้งที่สาม ไปวันสิ้นปี ไปกันสามคน ได้โต๊ะ 1 ติดกับโต๊ะตำส้มตำเลย สั่ง ไก่ย่าง เนื้อย่าง ยำวุ้นเส้น และตำไทย..โต๊ะถัดไป เป็นชาวต่างชาติ กำลังจะเช็คบิล เพราะเค้าสื่อสารกับพนักงาน ไม่ค่อยรู้เรื่องเท่าไร ต้องใช้ภาษามือ เราจึงรู้ว่า โต๊ะถัดไป มีคนใหม่มานั่ง ซึ่งมาทีหลังโต๊ะเราแน่ๆ..เรารอ 20 นาที ได้ไก่ย่าง กับ เนื้อย่างมา กินจนจะหมดแระ ไม่มีน้ำ ไม่มีน้ำแข็ง .. รอไปเกือบชั่วโมง จนโต๊ะรอบๆ เปลี่ยนคนไปหมด แต่มีอาหารเต็มโต๊ะ แม้แต่โต๊ะข้างเรา ก็มีส้มตำแล้ว เราเลยบอกพนักงานว่า ส้มตำไทย กับ ยำวุ้นเส้น ยังไม่ได้เลย..บอกไปสามรอบ ได้ยินพนักงานคนหนึ่ง คุยกับคนจัดคิว บอกว่า โต๊ะนี้ นานแล้วนะ ..สักพัก มียำวุ้นเส้นมาเสริฟ..ขาดส้มตำไทย..คนตำส้มตำเป็นผู้หญิง ตำจนเหนื่อย เปลี่ยนน้องผู้ชายมาทำ..พนักงานจัดคิว เดินมาบอกน้องผู้ชายที่ตำส้มตำว่า โต๊ะ1ยังไม่ได้ส้มตำเลย ลัดคิวให้เค้าก่อน..น้องผู้ชายดูในใบสั่งอาหาร บอกจะถึงคิวแระ..ผ่านไปอีกสักพัก ก็ยังไม่ตำให้เรา พนักงงานที่จัดคิว ก็เดินมาบอกอีก ..น้องผู้ชาย เลยตำส้มตำไทย..เรานึกว่าจะได้แระ..เค้าเอาใส่ถุง ให้คนที่สั่งกลับบ้านก่อน...เราโกรธมาก จะเดินไปถามคนจัดคิวอยู่แล้ว แต่โดนห้ามไว้ .. เพื่อนเลยถามน้องผู้ชายที่ตำส้มตำว่า จะได้รึยัง เค้าบอก คิวต่อไป..เราเลยบอกว่า ไม่กินแล้ว เก็บเงินเลย พนักงานคนหนึ่งก็ไปบอก คนจัดคิว (คนเก็บเงิน เป็นคนเดียวกัน) ..รอจน ต้องบอกรอบสองว่า คิดเงิน ..คนจัดคิวบอก สักครู่ พอดี มีลูกค้าต่างชาติเดินมา เค้าเลยไป take care ชาวต่างชาติอยู่นานเลย..เราไม่ไหวแระ เลยเดินไปที่รถ ให้เพื่อนรอจ่ายเงิน..ชีวิตนี้จะไม่มากินที่นี่อีก ต่อให้อร่อยแค่ไหน..มันไม่ใช่เข้าใจผิด มันไม่ใช่ผิดคิว แต่พนักงงานไม่สนใจเรา ไม่ take care ไม่ต้อนรับ...
