I visited Royal Indian Restaurant a few weeks ago after intending to try this establishment for a long time.
It was a Sunday night and only a few customers where inside. My first impression was that the restaurant is in dire need of some renovations. Later, the waiter informed me that this restaurant had been mostly closed during the Covid time.
I ordered some boneless chicken Tikka cooked in the tandoor oven, some Dhal Makhani and some Garlic Naan bread. I washed it all down with a large bottle of Singha beer.
While I was waiting for the food, the woman who I think is the owner/manager brought me some snacks to go with my beer. The waiter asked me if I wanted my food ''spicy'' and I said ''yes''. I would recommend no more than medium spicy for next time as I developed quite a sweat and the lady brought me some complimentary yogurt to help me cool down. They also gave me a complimentary bowl of yellow curry.
The food was OK and initially, the service seemed a bit ''out of practice'', but ultimately I found the staff to be really nice and friendly. I think as business picks up they will get their groove back. Hopefully, they will be able to invest in some much needed renovations too. Portions were a decent size.
I rate this establishment as Four Stars because of the friendly attitude and generosity of the staff. I think I will return in a few months to try out some more dishes and to tone down the...
Read moreJust came back from a delicious meal here, me and my partner had been wandering around looking for something that had something for both of us - It’s been harder to find vegetarian food than we’d expected and we’ve had some lost in translation errors while in Thailand. The Royal Indian had an impressive selection of vegi and meat options and we found they even make their own paneer! It was delicious almost as good as the chicken jalfrezi I’d ordered. I regret not asking the owners name as he was really nice gentleman who gave us complimentary extras and explained how to eat them like they do in India which I really appreciated. Safe to say we left absolutely stuffed. After eating street food for a few weeks it was nice to have a sit down meal and we even got chatting to the table over as the owner had got everybody in a good mood with his friendly attitude. It was a bit more expensive (obviously) compared to quick bites at a Thai food stall but the value was excellent really and I highly recommend it. I wish I could have fit some dessert in but we were so full! Turns out English Indian food is very spicy so I could of had four chillis instead of three but the flavour was delicious including the pashwari naan which was chock full of nuts and raisins- lovely evening I highly recommend...
Read moreAn absolutely amazing restaurant and such an authentic Indian / Curry House! The food is cooked fresh and it’s not your “ooh everything is freshly cooked” it is 100% freshly cooked!
The quality of the food is unbelievable and the portion sizes are fantastic - you are not left feeling hungry! We had to take some of our food back! There was no way we were leaving anything behind!
Also if you do not like spicy food (like me - I find black pepper spicy!!) I had the Chicken Tikka and Onion Bahjis for my main course and I ate all of it - I asked for not spicy and it actually came not spicy! I have never in my life had this before! I haven’t had chicken tikka in years but oh my this is by far the best! I have eaten in places like Dishoom in London and Chutney Mary’s and I can’t quite easily say that the taste and quality of food is on par with this restaurant!
It is absolutely a MUST VISIT!!!!!!!!
To top everything off, the staff which I believe are husband and wife, are just gorgeous! They cannot do enough for you, the service is super quick and always with a smile and gratitude!
I have fallen in love with Indian food again - so thank you...
